Tom Jones puts The Voice drama behind him as he delivers show-stopping (and knicker-dropping) performance at V Festival

He has been flooded with support from his fans after he was unceremoniously axed as as judge on The Voice last week.

And Tom Jones' supporters were out in force when he took to the stage to perform at the V Festival at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex, on Saturday.

The 75-year-old singer had the ladies going crazy as he belted out some of his biggest hits at the two-day music festival.

The It's Not Unusual hitmaker put on a typically dapper display in a coloured checked blazer, which he teamed with a black shirt and trousers as he proved his stage presence is still as powerful as ever.

Serenading the crowd with a medley of chart-topping tracks, his set certainly went down a treat with female festival-goers who screamed in the audience, with some even waving their knickers in the air before throwing them at the veteran singer during his performance.

Tom still seemed in sprightly spirits despite recently hitting out at the BBC for the way they handled his sacking from singing competition, The Voice.

Despite serving as a judge on the talent show since it began in 2012, the Welsh star claimed he was given hardly any warning that he would not be returning, a move he added was 'deeply insulting' to his professionalism.

‘It’s not that I was let go, it is how it was handled,’ he said on Monday evening, reports The Daily Mirror.

‘If indeed the producers were planning a cast change back in March/April, after the most successful year of the series in terms of viewer numbers, a warm and civilised conversation was in order at that time.’

He added: 'The executives in charge couldn’t be ladies and gentlemen about it, that they were filled with paranoia about a "leak" above all, is deeply insulting to our professionalism.'

His sensational sacking instantly spurred fans to take to social media to express their outrage.

One wrote: 'Absolutely disgraceful treatment of a legend to just drop him. BBC you should be ashamed!!'

Another added: 'Yet another massive gaff by the BBC in dropping from The Voice. Finger on the pulse of public opinion? I don't think so.'

The anger surrounding the axing was heightened after Sir Tom took to social media himself to slam bosses' behaviour, revealing the decision had been made ‘with no consultation or conversation of any kind’.

Meanwhile, Tom has been replaced by Boy George and Rita Ora by singer Paloma Faith, who also performed at V Festival on Saturday.
