A light aircraft pilot and his passenger walked away without injuries after a ‘miracle’ emergency landing on a Florida beach.

A dramatic picture shows the plane on the beach at Singer Island on Saturday evening after engine problems forced the pilot, Jamie Barker, to bring the plane down.

He had just flown passenger Gina Mason past landmark Jupiter Lighthouse and was on his way back to Lantana airport when the engine reportedly stalled.

Barker told The Sun Sentinel: ‘We done OK, I guess.’

The plane narrowly avoided beachgoers, including children, and Barker and Mason apparently did not suffer any injuries.

DaWayne Watson, spokesperson for the Riviera Beach Fire Rescue told the newspaper that the landing was a miracle.

He said: ‘It was a very skillful landing — to be over water and then end up on the beach.’

Witness Gina Hartel told Wptv.com: ‘We saw this very low plane really close and we knew immediately something was wrong.’

Watson added that the Federal Aviation Administration will launch an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Startled sunbathers screamed and scattered as the light aircraft headed straight for them at the water's edge.

Amazingly, the single engine aeroplane landed and veered to a halt missing scores of frantic families who had been playing in the sand and the water only moments earlier.

The plane's propeller ended up being buried at the water's edge as bathers including children ran for their lives at the packed beach at Santa Severa, near Rome in Central Italy.

Angry holidaymakers went to confront the two pilots after the emergency landing but quickly realised they had been injured in the crash and called the emergency services instead.
