You see, the thing with Barcelona players is, can they handle it on a wet weekend at West Brom? The answer, apparently, is yes.

There are some new signings who require time to adjust, others who hit the ground running. It is fair to say Pedro, £21million from Barcelona just four days ago, fits into the second category.

15:23
FULL-TIME: West Brom 2-3 Chelsea
15:21

90+4min: And from the resulting corner, Jonas Olsson can only loop a header over the bar. Is that the last chance gone for West Brom?

15:21

90+3min: Save from Courtois! Brunt's high ball into the box is nodded into the path of Rondon by lambert, but his shot is smothered by Courtois from close range.

15:19

90+1min: There will be five added minutes. You might think Jose Mourinho would be annoyed with that, instead he is too busy telling defender Kurt Zouma to go up and attack a corner. Maverick.

15:16
West Brom substitution

88min: Final change from West Brom as Morrison, having scored twice, is replaced by Craig Gardner. Chris Brunt lets fly with a 25 yard strike but his powerful effort just clears the crossbar.

15:15

87min: Time is running out for West Brom to grab an equaliser, but their pressure has eased and it's now Chelsea going close as Hazard dances into the penalty box before firing low and wide across goal.

West Bromwich Albion fans wave as John Terry of Chelsea is sent off
15:13
Chelsea substitution

84min: Mourinho is coaching his team through the final stages of this game, and he's doing it outside his technical area - some rules are made to be broken I guess.

It's a final change for Chelsea as Pedro's gamesmanship to run down the clock sees him shake hands with referee Mark Clattenburg before being replaced by John Obi Mikel.

Large applause from the travelling Blues supporters for the winger, who has impressed on his debut.

15:11

83min: So that's why Arsenal loaned him out. Cutting inside from the left, Gnabry has a window of opportunity to try and bend a shot across goal and into the top corner, but his effort flies miles off target.

15:09

81min: We haven't seen much of Pedro in this half, but when he does eventually get the ball he creates a fantastic chance.

On the right the winger looks up to spot Falcao in space six yards out, but his cross for the striker is scuffed wide across the target by the Colombian. Who saw that coming?...

15:06
West Brom and Chelsea substitutions

78min: Just as well Chelsea don't need a goal because on comes Radamel Falcao for Costa, while West Brom hand Serge Gnabry his debut having joined on loan from Arsenal as he replaces McManaman.

15:05

77min: Not good enough from Costa. The striker does well enough to muscle into the box and turn the West Brom defence, but his eventual strike balloons over the bar.

James Morrison (centre) of West Bromwich Albion scored his second goal of the game with a header
15:04

75min: West Brom have been pressing to grab an equaliser but Courtois is still yet to be tested since it went to 3-2. Chelsea are playing on the counter attack in theory, only when they do get the ball they are struggling badly to keep hold of it.

15:01

72min: Unlucky from McManaman! The midfielder cuts inside into the penalty area from the left, and after finding space for a shot past Ivanovic, he can only tuck home a finish across the face of the goal and wide. Moments before he was booked for kicking the ball away.

15:00

69min: Fair to say that despite losing, the West Brom fans are enjoying themselves now.

Ivanovic needs treatment to his head after a collision with McManaman and that leads to the Chelsea doctors (the new ones) being ironically cheered by the home supporters as they come on to the field.

The 'getting sacked in the morning' chants soon follow. This is something that is likely to stick all season I feel when Chelsea players need treatment.

John Terry of Chelsea leaves the pitch after being sent off as his manager Jose Mourinho looks on
14:56

67min: Close from Rondon! The ball falls for the striker on the edge of the box, but with just a snap second to react he can only drill a shot wide of the post.

14:54

64min: An optical illusion get the better of some Chelsea fans cheering, after Costa's back post volley crashes off the advertising hoarding and into the back of the net - on the wrong side.

14:53
From Sportsmail's Laurie Whitwell at The Hawthorns

'As John Terry walked off Jose Mourinho actually sent him back with a firm hand gesture. Presumably to gain more time so the Chelsea manager could formulate his next action.'

Chelsea's John Terry (right) was sent off after bringing down West Brom's Salomon Rondon on the edge of the box
14:50
West Brom substitution

60min: Here comes Lambert for West Brom then as James McClean departs. The home fans are fired up now, they sense an equaliser.

14:47
GOAL! WEST BROM 2-3 Chelsea

59min: Now it gets interesting! West Brom are back in the game as a cross from McManaman on the left is brilliantly headed by James Morrison, with the ball looping into the far top corner.

14:47

59min: Jose Mourinho, obviously, is far from happy at seeing his captain sent off and has already had a few words with fourth official Mike Jones. Rickie Lambert is getting ready to come on for the hosts.

John Terry leaves the field in the rain at West Brom after being sent off
Referee Mark Clattenburg shows the red card to John Terry of Chelsea after he pulled down Rondon
14:42
RED CARD: John Terry (Chelsea)

56min: What a terrible start to the year for Terry! The centre-back appears to bring down Salomon Rondon as he runs in on goal, with the foul on the edge of the box resulting in the Blues skipper being sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Naturally the Chelsea players disagree and it takes a good while for the defender to leave the field.

Willian is replaced by Gary Cahill for the visitors.

14:42

53min: I will be very surprised if Diego Costa and Claudio Yacob end this game without yellow cards.

Both square up to each other wight in front of the referee, but Costa slightly leans his head in as if to head butt him. No further action from Clatrtenburg.

Diego Costa and Claudio Yacob clashed following a set-piece
14:39

50min: McClean, already on a booking, nearly blows a gasket after his sliding challenge on Hazard results in a Chelsea free-kick. The midfielder is furious with referee Mark Clattenburg, but it looked like a straight forward free-kick to me.

14:35

47min: It's all downhill from here for Pedro. The winger is penalised for handball at the start of the second half.

I jest of course but West Brom do win a corner as they look for a route back into this game.

PLAYER WATCH: Pedro (Chelsea)

As noted, Pedro has been a key link in the Chelsea attack during the first half - with there being very few signs he only joined the champions last week.

He's even off the mark already having scored the opening goal, so in what has been a close to perfect 45 minutes for the winger, check out his first half heat.

14:25
What a contrast in fortunes for Chelsea compared to last week

Given a hiding at Manchester City, Chelsea have turned up and forced West Brom into mistakes to hold a 3-1 lead at half-time in an entertaining encounter.

It's been a very open game, and that's only played into the hands of Blues new boy Pedro who has been very lively.

West brom are still in this but right now it's advantage Chelsea who for the first time this season actually look like champions.

14:15

45min: We are now into two added minutes at the end of the first half. I make that time for at least three more goals...

14:12
GOAL! West Brom 1-3 CHELSEA

42min: That's how you do it, Willian! Diego Costa shows great strength to cushion down a chipped pass into the box, and running in from the left is Cesar Azpilicueta to cleverly poke home a finish into the bottom corner. He's defending has been rubbish today, but that was opportunism at its finest.

Among all these goals by the way, James McClean has been booked for the hosts.

14:11

40min: Once is unfortunate, twice is careless. Pedro has impressed out on the right in this first half but after typing up the Baggies defence again, he squares for Willian in space on the edge of the box.

The Brazilian only has to tuck home a finish into the bottom corner, but his side-footed effort is again wide of the target. This is basic stuff we are dealing with here.

West Bromwich Albion's James Morrison pulled a goal back against Chelsea
Morrison (right) celebrates halving Chelsea's lead with West Brom team-mate Darren Fletcher
14:09

38min: What a game! West Brom are now pushing for an equaliser, with a pass out wide for James McClean wasted after he delivers a cross/shot straight at Courtois.

At the other end, Willian rifles well off target.

14:05
GOAL! WEST BROM 1-2 Chelsea

35min: Just when it looked like Chelsea may be storming to victory, West Brom hit back!

A far post cross is superbly kept alive by Salomon Rondon, whose overhead kick back into the mixer is crashed home on the volley by James Morrison. That makes up for the penalty miss!

14:00
GOAL! West Brom 0-2 CHELSEA

30min: Cut to ribbons. West Brom are really struggling with the Chelsea counter attack, with the latest through the centre resulting in Pedro's low cross/shot across the penalty box being tucked home by Diego Costa for his first goal of the season. Crisis, what crisis?

Chelsea's Diego Costa celebrates scoring his side's second goal at The Hawthorns
13:59

29min: Chelsea may be leading but Azpilicueta is having a tough afternoon. McManaman turns the full-back before seeing his low cross turned behind.

From OptaJoe
13:56

23min: 'Are you watching Manchester?' is the cry from the Chelsea fans, with the Blues of course having signed Pedro from under the noses of Manchester United.

Replays have shown there was a disagreement over the penalty taker for West Brom, with James Morrison dismissing an approach from Chris Brunt after picking up the ball.

13:49
GOAL! West Brom 0-1 CHELSEA

20min: Guess who? Of course it's Pedro that grabs a goal on his debut, playing a one-two with Eden Hazard before his shot from inside the box deflects off Jonas Olsson and rolls home.

13:49

18min: Close from West Brom! A free-kick swung into the box is powerfully headed just over by Craig Dawson who had outjumped the Chelsea defence.

13:48

17min: Matic just can't help himself at the moment, picking up a booking after again fouling McManaman - at least this time it was outside the box by the midfielder.

13:45
MISSED PENALTY: James Morrison (West Brom)

14min: But it goes unpunished! James Morrison rifles a strike down the centre, very much like David Beckham against Argentina in 2002, but unlike Becks he fails to score. The diving Courtois gets a foot to it as he deflects it over the bar.

13:42
PENALTY (West Brom)

13min: Not even Jose Mourinho can complain about this, Nemanja Matic clumsily trips Callum McManaman inside the box. Stupid challenge really.

13:42

11min: Welcome to England, Pedro. He's gone from Barcelona to the West Midlands where it is absolutely chucking it down with rain.

The winger has gone on a couple of charges down the right, but as Cesc Fabregas attempts to play him in with a 40-yard pass, the Spaniard fails to read it allowing Boaz Myhill to collect easily.

Still teething them two, despite having played at Barca previously.

13:37
From Sportsmail's Laurie Whitwell at the Hawthorns

'Bucketing down at the Hawthorns, as both teams threaten early. Salomon Rondon and Jon Terry have already engaged in a couple of duels, be interesting to see how that one develops.'

Chelsea's Eden Hazard (left) fends off West Brom's Craig Dawson in the rain at The Hawthorns
13:36

5min: First chance (sort of) falls for West Brom! Craig Dawson turns Cesar Azpilicueta wonderfully on the right before his cross was missed by Salomon Rondon's overhead kick.

James McClean picks it up at the back post but he can't control the ball, giving Thibaut Courtois the invitation to punch the ball clear.

Down the other end, Diego Costa picks up possession at the far post, only to drag wide across goal.

13:33

3min: A quiet old start at The Hawthorns, where there are quite a few empty seats for the visit of the champions. Not a popular match choice around these parts it seems. Chelsea with all the ball but not much to show for it as yet.

Out come the players at The Hawthorns

John Terry leads out a Chelsea team who will be playing in their black third kit on an overcast afternoon in the West Midlands, in fact it may even look like it is starting to rain now. Perfect conditions for football really.

Jose Mourinho admits Pedro is still getting up to speed at Chelsea

And there must be something in the air at The Hawthorns because Mourinho was also very moody in the pre-match interview.

'Let's see [Pedro]. Lets not demand everything in the first day after three days of training,' Mourinho told Sky Sports.

'Everybody knows his qualities but it’s a question of how long he needs to adapt and how long the team needs to understand him. No doubt he’s a good talent.

'I knew the question was coming [on dropping Gary Cahill] because you are always interested in the players who are not playing.

'I think next week we will give the players who are not playing. I do not have to tell you [thinking behind starting XI.]'

Tony Pulis is absolutely furious at having to leave Berahino out

During the manager's pre-match interview, which is usually quite reserved, Tony Pulis was left hitting out at the transfer window forcing him to drop Berahino.

Pulis told Sky Sports: 'It is absolutely ridiculous that we are talking about something outside of football.

'Close the transfer window before the season stars and we can concentrate on football. We are playing Chelsea today and we are not talking football and it's down to the system.'

12:55
From Sportsmail's Laurie Whitwell at the Hawthorns

'Saido Berahino has been left out of West Bromwich Albion’s squad for the visit of Chelsea by Tony Pulis.

'It is understood Pulis has decided Berahino is not in the right frame of mind to play the match despite the 22-year-old striker being happy to perform. Club-record signing Salomon Rondon starts in his place with Rickie Lambert on the bench.

'Berahino is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, who had a £15million bid rejected last week.

'The London club are expected to return with a fresh bid despite Albion chairman Jeremy Peace stating the England Under 21 international is not for sale.'

12:46
Pedro handed his Chelsea debut as Saido Berahino is not included for WBA

There are three changes for Chelsea following their defeat by Manchester City. Gary Cahill is axed from the defence as Kurt Zouma comes in, with John terry starting alongside him.

Pedro makes his debut after joining from Barcelona, and he is joined in the side by keeper Thibaut Courtois, back from suspension, as the duo replace Ramires and Asmir Begovic.

West Brom leave out Saido Berahino, with transfer speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham, as Salomon Rondon comes into the attack.

Rickie Lambert and Craig Gardner drop out the side which drew 0-0 with Watford, as James McClean and Callum McManaman also come in.

Thumped at Manchester City last time out, it's time for Chelsea to hit back

Well that's what I've got written down on a script handed to me here anyway. It's two games and no wins for last season's champions, but in West Brom they are up against another side making a slow start to the season.

It should be an ideal game for the Blues, but then they lost this fixture 3-0 back in May so we have a rather intriguing clash to open up Sunday's Barclays Premier League action.

Good afternoon to you all!

A merchandise seller holds a match scarf prior to the Barclays Premier League clash between West Brom and Chelsea

Follow Sportsmail's coverage of the Barclays Premier League as West Brom host Chelsea at The Hawthorns to begin Sunday's action.

Following a crushing defeat at Manchester City last weekend, Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways having made a slow start to the new campaign.

But Tony Pulis' outfit will be confident despite also still searching for their first win of the season having beaten the champions 3-0 in the same fixture back in May.
