'What is sobriety with food?': Alanis Morissette addresses the struggles she had while recovering from eating disorder

She made her name twenty years ago with the angry hit written from the perspective of a scorned lover.

But there is another thing You Oughta Know about Alanis Morissette.

The 41-year-old recently opened up about her struggles recovering from an eating disorder in a recent interview with Women's Health Magazine.

The talented musician brought up a very good point when it comes to getting over battling personal demons as she said: 'The big question for me around eating-disorder recovery is, "What is sobriety with food?"

 'We know with alcohol, you just don’t drink it and don’t go to a bar. With heroin, you just don’t go near it.'

She elaborated more: 'Whereas with food, you have to eat, so how can one go from, in my case, bingeing and purging, starving, overeating, the scale going up and down—how can I go from that to a "sober" approach?'

Alanis has been open about has been previously open about her struggles with bulimia and anorexia in the past.

She currently has found more peace and the ability in creating boundaries for herself through aromatherapy, yoga and meditation which is a stark contrast from her younger days.

The Ironic singer explained: 'I’ve been so disassociated for most of my life, and it’s shown up in various forms like eating disorders and not having boundaries around having sex as a young person and just not being aware of boundaries and having a lot of mine be violated and not considered.

'For me, the idea of building boundaries has become a huge part of my spiritual practice. With the mindfulness somatic practices, it’s really helped me stay in my body.'

No doubt it is an interesting time in the Hand In My Pocket singer's life as she recently celebrated the milestone of her Grammy Award winning album Jagged Little Pill being released 20 years ago.

When Alanis was just 21-years-old, she recorded perhaps her most celebrated album.

Jagged Little Pill demonstrated the peak of the singer's characteristic angst.

It won the Grammy for Album Of The Year - Alanis was the youngest artist to receive the accolade until a 20-year-old Taylor Swift took the honors in 2010.

The album was released 20 years ago at the pinnacle of grunge rock and hits like You Oughta Know and Ironic still play on the radio today.
