Coronation Street fans help sales double at tour operator Continuum Group
The company that allows Coronation Street fans to get behind the bar of the Rovers Return pub doubled its turnover last year as visitor numbers and the average spend at its attractions increased.
Continuum Group, which runs the Coronation Street tour as well as other experiences, such as at Portsmouth’s Emirates Spinnaker Tower, the Canterbury Tales exhibition and tours of Oxford Castle, saw sales increase to £16.2million in the year to January 31, 2015, from £9.4million previously. Pre-tax profits jumped from £155,000 to £2.1million.
Directors of the York-based group said: ‘The tourism and visitor attraction industry demonstrated a strong year in 2014 with the economy and consumer confidence picking up, driving higher discretionary spends, and the weather being favourable at key times.’

Continuum is looking to add more attractions to its portfolio and is testing tours on the set of Emmerdale, near Leeds, where visitors can explore Smithy Cottage and the Woolpack Inn.
People wishing to walk down Corrie’s cobbles need to move fast though: the tour finishes at the end of the year.
