Ed Sheeran 'to take a long break from music career to work for a charity shop in his hometown in Suffolk'

He has the ability to weaken the knees of many a music fan with his meaningful lyrics and impeccably skilled vocal skills.

But the talented Ed Sheeran is about to go one further, as it has been reported he is set to give up a large amount of his time to volunteer at a charity shop.

The kind-hearted Thinking Out Loud hitmaker is believed to be planning to use a long break, starting next month, from music to help out at the Sue Ryder shop in his home town of Framlingham, Suffolk.

The 24-year-old singer-songwright is also said to be working on turning an old police station into a youth club for local residents.

Manager of Sue Ryder Jacqui Bell told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: 'There's a good possibility he will volunteer here. We'd welcome him.

'My volunteers, who are aged between 61 and 91, know Ed because he was brought up in the town. They would be fine working with him.

'He purchased the old police station to open up a youth club for £1million, so he'll also be helping there when its up and running. I think he will draw the youngsters into our shop which would be good for us.'

It is not the first time the multi-award winning star has made a significant donation to local causes.

As well as previously donating his entire wardrobe to good causes,  earlier this year he gave away his entire outfit - eight items in total - that he wore at the Grammy Awards in order to raise some cash.

He wrote on Twitter at the time: 'Given my whole wardrobe to a bunch of charity shops. All stuff worn on shoots, videos and live.Stuff ranging from the Ralph hoodies, Fenchurch T-shirts and Nike trainers (sic)'

The shop that felt the huge benefit of such A-list garments was the Elizabeth Hospice charity shop in his hometown.

Elsewhere, the charitable star recently helped out when his pal Jake Roche, of Rixon fame, proposed to his girlfriend Jesy Nelson on stage during a gig.

And the generous star also took to the stage at Ronan Keating and Storm Uechtritz's wedding in Scotland on Monday, where he serenaded the newlyweds on their big day.

It was also recently revealed that Ed - who is rumoured to be in a romance with US singer Nicole Scherzinger - will receive an honorary degree from the University Campus Suffolk.

Speaking about the 'outstanding contribution to music' honour, school-leaver Ed said: 'I'm really grateful to University Campus Suffolk and I'm honoured to receive this Honorary Degree.

'I've had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better.'

Raised in the county of Suffolk, the singer added that the he would continue to support the university in the future as it has done the same for his career.

He continued: 'Suffolk is very much where I call home and I'm always welcomed back and get so much support. Receiving this recognition is a real privilege.

'UCS is at an exciting point in its development and I look forward to building links with UCS and its students in the months and years to come.'
