Calvin Harris reveals he didn't wade in on Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift fan meet and greets debacle...he was victim of fake Tweet

He is known for rushing to his girlfriends defence on social media.

But it seems that for once Calvin Harris had someone else doing the talking for him, after he was the victim of a fake Tweet.

The musician was thought to have waded in on the escalating social media storm which was sparked by Avril Lavigne responding to a fans montage of Taylor Swift with her supporters at meet and greets.

E! News reported the DJ and music producer Tweeted the 30-year-old star on Monday after she commented when Taylor liked a post on Tumblr.

It seemed to suggest she was nicer to her followers at meet and greets than many other singers.

Calvin, 31, looked to have leapt to the defence of his beloved and posted: 'She didn't judge you she doesn't judge anyone! She was only having fun with her fans, not trying to compare you.'

However the Tweet was swiftly removed - and now it appears it wasn't Calvin at all - the Scottish born musician said the message was fake and he had nothing to do with posting it.

The problem started on Sunday when a meaning well fan of Avril's saw the original Tumblr post the Bad Blood singer had liked.

The comparative post showcased the Shake It Off singer as more friendly to her devotees, reading: 'This is most celeb's with fans...And this is Taylor.'

What caused the problem: The row was originally sparked when Taylor liked a Tumblr post that suggested that she was more genuine than Avril while engaging in meet and greets

It juxtaposed images of some undeniably bored entertainers meeting their fans, with some of the Wildest Dreams songbird, 25, enthusiastically doing the same.

Kanye West was sporting a scowl face alongside his beaming followers while Katy Perry was seen posing with a gentleman from a distance, also wearing a blank stare.

Britney Spears was featured as well, keeping plenty of personal space between her and her male counterpart.

Known for her big hearted caring attitude when it comes to those who appreciate her music, Taylor no doubt was just being her usual polite self in gratitude to the suggestion she looked out for those who liked her material.

However, the fan took it another way and Tweeted Avril direct saying: 'Taylor Swift liked a post comparing her M&G with Avril Lavigne's M&G.'

The Complicated singer responded, seeming to think that the 1989 singer was making some kind of point.

She posted a montage of her own on Instagram, seemingly furiously to a suggestion that she may be a little less engaged with the selfie sessions than her fellow singer Taylor Swift

Showing herself smiling with dozens of different fans, she wrote: 'Comparison is judging and judging a person does not define who they are it defines who you are. We all Love our fans.'

Avril's photo under question went viral last year after fans shelled out a whopping $400 to get a quick snap with their idol, only to be placed nearly a foot away without a handshake or hug in sight.

Some of the Sk8er Boi singer's fans were quick to come to her rescue, sharing a plethora of other endearing snaps of the blonde beauty squeezing them tight and even making hospital visits.

Avril wasn't impressed with the Tumblr, adding a fan-inspired montage pic, and writing: 'So let’s keep it all about the love and stay positive.'

It's not the first time Calvin has waded in to his girlfriends defence - in early August he took umbrance at Zayn Malik who put together a quote from Taylor and Miley Cyrus about the music industry.

The account attempted to call out the Pennsylvanian born star for her for-profit stance about streaming service while applauding Miley's anti-money attitude.

He responded: 'You've made your money? Cool…f**k the 99% of musicians who depend on these services to survive right? Yeah f**k em.' he Tweeted.

'If u don't get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry stay out my f**kin mentions pls.'

He retracted wishing Zayn the 'best of luck' but his comments were already out there.
