Robin Thicke and ex-wife Paula Patton reunite to take son Julian, five, to soccer

They may no longer be a couple, but Paula Patton and Robin Thicke have clearly remained friends for the sake of their son.

The actress, 39, and the singer, 38, were seen at the weekend taking five-year-old Julian to his soccer game at a Malibu park.

Paula kept tight hold of her boy's hand as they walked across a parking lot behind Robin who carried lawn chairs and a canvas bag.

Go casual with a plaid shirt like Paula's

The celebs are mad for plaid these days!

But they're not just rocking any flannel- they're mad for 'Rails'-- the LA based label that has fans from Olivia Wilde. Jennifer Garner to Cara Delevigne and the Kardashians.

If that's not a list to convince you, then look no further than Paula in her red and white flannel tied around her waist for a casual daytime outing.

A plaid flannel shirt is a wardrobe staple, it’s one of those timeless pieces you can throw on with everything from jeans to a LBD- you really can never have too many.

The light weight fabric is a perfect layer for summer and it offers respite from the daily primp and polish in other outfits.

The Precious actress was dressed for a day on the sideline in a white t-shirt, Daisy Dukes and her favorite white high-top Converse kicks.

She had a plaid shirt tied around her waist and wore a wide-brimmed hat to protect her from the sun.

The Blurred Lines singer was all in white in a shirt, long pants and sneakers while Julian had on his neon green Nike soccer shirt, black Nike shorts, white socks and soccer boots.

Both Paula and Robin have credited their son with helping them through the tough times as their marriage fell apart.

The couple, who first met at 14 and who started dating at 16, separated in February 2014 after nine years of marriage.

Their divorce was finalized this past March.

That same month, Paula revealed during an interview with ABC morning anchor Robin Roberts that being a mother kept her moving forward.

'The thing is, you can't wallow in sadness or stay in bed when you have a child,' she said.

The actress, 39, beamed happily and was dressed for a day on the sideline in the sun, wearing tiny denim shorts, a white t-shirt, Converse kicks and a wide-brimmed sun hat

And earlier this month, in an appearance on Good Morning America, the Give It 2 U singer said he weathered his very public divorce thanks to the support of his family and especially his son.

'It helps you gain perspective on what's important in life,' he said of the time off he took to be with his kid.

He also said his recently released Morning Sun album is about 'fresh starts, new beginnings, and the heralding of a new day.'
