He went under the radar after his weight ballooned, shunning his family's showbiz lifestyle and becoming something of a recluse.

But Rob Kardashian appears to be on the mend, taking to Instagram late on Sunday night to share his first selfie in months, revealing a slimmed down physique and brand new positive attitude.

The 28-year-old star looks more like his old, confident self in the black and white shot, which he simply captioned, 'Gnight'.

Rob's social media comeback was met with a flurry of positive messages from fans, who announced how 'proud' they were and how much they had missed the old Rob.

And momager Kris Jenner has confirmed that her only boy - the younger sibling of Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian and older half-brother of Kendall and Kylie Jenner - has been making some positive changes in recent months.

The proud matriarch told ET: 'He's doing terrific. Robert's good. He's working out and eating [well], so he's on a good path right now.'

The MTV VMAs was just another girly night out for the Kardashian/Jenners.

Kim was of course there to support Kanye West, but she brought sisters Kourtney and Kylie along too. And when it comes to red carpet style, anything they can do, momgaer Kris can do even better!

Fans had previously seen the Kardashian clan despairing over Rob's continued reluctance to spend time with his family and refusal to accept their help.

Rob, who missed their summer getaway to St. Barts, was last seen on Keeping Up With The Kardshians in 2013, struggling with his weight gain and self-confidence issues, as well as battling depression.

Last week, Rob proved he had got his spark back, showing off his sense of humour with a throwback snap of himself sipping on a milkshake, with two empty glasses on the table in front of him.

Making light of his current fitness situation, Rob joked: 'Started right here with these milkshakes hahaha... #throwbackthursday.'

The photo is from June 2011 when Rob paid a visit to Sugar Factory American Brasserie in Las Vegas.

Rob has gained well over 100 pounds in the last year, which was revealed by his Kris in May episode of the publicity-loving family's E!'s show.

'Just went on the hardest hike every today with @robkardashian,' the expecting 34-year-old wife of Kanye West tweeted - which Rob posted on Instagram a couple weeks ago.

And he proved he's been maintaining his morning workouts. Just a few days ago, he wrote, 'Spotted these fools on the morning workout,' with a picture of his sister Kylie Jenner and beau Tyga.

Kim previously wrote on Twitter, 'Rise & Grind! Workout time!!!!! With @robkardashian.' She is expecting a boy in December.

Rob has also been working with celebrity trainer, Gunnar Peterson. 'He's always in and out. He makes it work with his schedule and he's on his path,' Gunnar told Us Weekly.

'In the scheme of life this is a chapter, it's not The Book Of Rob. Watch him be better than ever! Watch! I'm taking all bets!'

Rob became a recluse over a year ago when his weight ballooned.

The son of Kris Jenner, 59, went from a fit cover boy to an out-of-shape man teetering on the edge of obesity after a painful split with British songbird Rita Ora - who is now romancing Amber Rose's estranged husband Wiz Khalifa - in December 2012.

Rob lived by himself for a while and this year has been living with sister Khloe, 30, at her Calabasas mansion which was once owned by Justin Bieber.

Khloe has said that Rob is doing fine, even though he chooses to not be much involved with KUWTK.

The estranged wife of Lamar Odom told Complex in July, 'Rob lives with me now and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love having him with me.

'I have a big ass house and I wanted it so he could feel, like, comfortable,' the girlfriend of James Harden, 25, said.

'He's going through a hard time now, and it's behind gates. With this crazy lifestyle you have to think of places where you can still have your freedom.'

The two are so close, Khloe has said she feels like his mom.

'I just bought him a rug for his bedroom, and he was so cute. He'll text me and tell me how much he likes it, and he notices things,' she said. 'So, I like it. I call him my son as a joke.'

The E! princess also said she feels sometimes Rob wants to move out.

'He's a man and 28, and I'm sure it doesn't sound good to say, 'Oh I live with my sister,' but it's not because he has to,' she said.

'I'm like, 'Put this into perspective: Your friends live at home with their parents because they can't do anything else. Your sister's literally holding you captive and actively making you. So if that makes you feel better, say that all you want.''
