Justin Timberlake is teaming with Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme for a concert film showcasing his 20/20 Experience World Tour.

Demme shot Timberlake's final two concerts on January 1 and 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and is set to being editing the footage this fall.

'It's very emotional, very exciting,' the director said of the star's performance, according to Rolling Stone. 'It's a space age music film.'

The filmmaker, 71, who won an Academy Award for Silence of the Lambs, is well-known for putting rock concerts on the big screen.

He pioneered the genre with the 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense.

He's also partnered with Neil Young for a music film trilogy and directed music videos for New Order and Bruce Springsteen.

His most recent project has been the Meryl Streep starrer Ricki And The Flash for which the multi-Oscar winning actress learned to play the guitar and teams up on screen with real-life musician Rick Springfield.

Demme describes Timberlake, 34, as like a 'funky' Fred Astaire in the 20/20 Experience concerts.

'There's tremendous dancing in this piece,' Demme said.

'He's got an extraordinary band called the Tennessee Kids. Huge horn section, two lead guitars, two drummers, eight dancers, four exquisite background singers. And we caught them on their last performance.'

The movie is being independently financed, according to Variety, and doesn't yet have a distributor.

In 2007, the former 'N SYNC member filmed his FutureSex/LoveShow: Live from Madison Square Garden concert for HBO and released it on DVD and Blu-ray.

His 20/20 Experience double album was released in 2013 and director David Fincher, for whom he worked on The Social Network, directed the video for the first single Suit And Tie.
