Eye candy! Shirtless Ryan Phillippe, 40, parades his chiseled chest and abs during brisk jog with his son Deacon

Beverly Hills residents were in for a treat when Ryan Phillippe jogged shirtless through the neighbourhood on Saturday.

The 40-year-old exposed his washboard abs as he worked out beside his son Deacon, whose mother is his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.

Running at a brisk pace, Ryan appeared to be neck-in-neck with his 11-year-old, who opted to ride through the suburbs on a grey scooter.

Ryan wore little more than his vibrant red shorts and black trainers for the run, while clutching his discarded white shirt in his hand.

The shirtless actor also gave a full view of his tattoo collection, which included an arrow imprint on his left arm.   

Ryan, who also sported a blossoming beard, at one point appeared to overtake his son by just a step.

The star proved his superb shape as he continued racing through the neighbourhood, showing few signs of exhaustion.

For Ryan, the benefits of working out extend beyond his physical appearance.

'I like feeling strong...I want to throw my kids up in the air and wrestle them. Working out has become about functionality. I want my head clearer, I want to relieve the stress, and I want to feel capable and strong,' he told the publication.

Meanwhile, Ryan has been romancing 24-year-old Stanford Law student Paulina Slagter.

The Lincoln Lawyer favourite is clearly smitten with his university student girlfriend, and has not been afraid to extoll her virtues publicly.

'It is [serious]. I'm not opposed to [getting married again],' he told Howard Stern in April.

'She's awesome. When people see her they have these judgments because she could be a model but she's about to graduate Stanford Law.

'Also what's great about it - as you get older certain issues become more important to you.

'I'm very involved in civil rights issues, and so to be with a woman who could actually make an impact in the legal realm - that's a beautiful thing.'
