Demi Lovato embraced her sensual image when she performed for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

The 23-year-old sang Cool For The Summer at the Los Angeles awards show in a bejewelled purple bathing suit that hugged her incredible body with black satin ribbons.

Demi delighted audience members when Iggy Azalea, 25, made a quick cameo appearance on stage, where she rapped a verse to the infectious new single.

The hit-maker kicked off the song seated on a yellow beach chair while flanked by her back-up dancers, who shaded her with two large umbrellas.

She sported a blue fur coat and a pair of sunglasses, which she sensually shed after getting off of the chair.

Her hair slicked back over her head, Demi looked incredible as she paraded her famous figure on stage while sporting a pair of knee-high boots.

Demi sauntered on stage in her knee-high boots while delivering what was certain to be a memorable performance.

Iggy then joined Demi after appearing on stage from a surprise trap door.

Sporting a flowing white dress, Iggy rapped to the screaming crowd while Demi sensually grinded against her leg.

Following Iggy's cameo, Demi rode through the crowd on a giant floatation device, which was carried by several assistant.

Cool For The Summer is the first track off of Demi's upcoming fifth studio album, Confident.

During the VMAs pre-show, the singer stopped to chat with Kelly Osbourne, who insisted that Demi was her 'favourite person to come down the carpet today.'

Demi used the opportunity to talk about her album, set for an October 16 release: 'I named the album Confident, because that's where I'm at in my life. Also it's one of the songs.'

Meanwhile, Demi recently discussed how proud she was of her cover photo for Cosmopolitan, a sexy image that drew scrutiny.

'It took so much for me to get to a place where I would feel comfortable enough to do that,' the Cool For Summer singer told E! News.

'It's showing all of my fans who know my story and my journey that I've gone from hating every inch of my body to doing a photo shoot in my underwear in front of the entire world.'

The Sonny With A Chance star has been very public about her struggles with addiction and with an eating disorder - she left a Jonas Brothers concert tour in 2010 to get treatment for these issues.

Because of this history, Demi said that being able to show herself to the world was 'more of a statement to me than just looking sexy on a magazine cover.'
