Bad Blood no more! Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift put Twitter feud to rest with red hot opening performance at MTV VMAs

  • The rapper later won the Best Hip Hop Video award for Anaconda
  •  Started yet another feud by calling out 'b****' Miley Cyrus when accepting gong

Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift put their Twitter feud to rest with a red hot opening performance at the MTV VMAs.

The stars, who engaged in a social media scuffle over the event a few months ago, put on quite a show for the crowd in LA on Sunday night.

Taylor received nine nominations for the 2015 MTV Music Video Awards with seven of the nods for Bad Blood, while her sidekick Nicki scored a gong of her own when she took home the Best Hip Hop Video award for Anaconda.

However it seems the rapper could not avoid causing at least a little controversy when she labelled show host Miley Cyrus a 'b****' when she picked up her prestigious paperweight.

The feud she put to bed on the night began in July when the nominations were first announced the 22 singer ended up having a very public beef withNicki.

It all began when the 32-year-old rapper tweeted her frustration about the music industry after missing out on a Video Of The Year nomination for Anaconda.

Among her many tweets blasting MTV, the generously bottomed star wrote: 'If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.'

Taylor took this to be a dig at her Bad Blood video, which featured several cameo appearances from her famous female friends.

The 25-year-old is nominated in the category alongside Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar.

Upon reading Nicki's tweet, Taylor replied: 'I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..'

Nicki claimed that what she was saying 'had nothing to do with Taylor', replying to the pop star directly with the words: 'Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.'

She added to her 19.9million followers: 'I'm so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged.'

Taylor tweeted Nicki again, saying: 'If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on.' She later deleted this post.

Nicki clarified her argument on Instagram. She wrote: 'Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with a system that doesn't credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as freely/quickly as they reward others.

'We are huge trendsetters, not second class citizens that get thrown crumbs. This isn't anger. This is #information. It's all love to MTV. Kisses to my fans and thank you for my 3 nominations.'

Taylor then apologized to Minaj and admitted she was in the wrong and had spoken out of turn, tweeting: 'I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki.'

And the rapper graciously accepted the apology, replying: 'That means so much Taylor, thank you.'

She added: 'I've always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let's move on.'

Nicki was not so gracious when it came to her new sparring partner Miley when she collected her Best Hip Hop Video award.

She used her moment of glory to fire back at the 22-year-old, who said in an interview that the rapper was being a poor sport about not receiving a nomination for video of the year.

The bad-tempered starlet said: 'And now back to this b**** that had a lot to say about me a lot in the press. Miley, what's good?'

Before she could continue her microphone was mercifully cut off, and the show's host tried to brush the attack aside, saying, 'we all know how they manipulate" words during interviews.

Miley then stumbled over her words as she tried to read from cue cards before then landing a few blows of her own..

She said: 'I lost this award in 2008 and I was fine with it. Whatever! Because it's no big deal. It's just an award and I persevered. Congratulations Nicki.'

A host of other big names delivered performances, several of which were surprisingly off-key, including pop pixie Justin Bieber, Cool For The Summer star Demi Lovato, Iggy Azalea and self-styled singer The Weekend.

However they had saved the most outrageous for last, with Miley Cyrus delivering a truly memorable stage set which saw her sing, dance, curse, and even have a backing dancer shoot streamers from between her legs.
