'Embrace your flaws!': Alexa Rae Joel insists she only had a nose job while pledging to be an 'honest' voice for women

Alexa Rae Joel may have gone under the knife for a nose job, but that does not mean she thinks women should try for perfection.

The 29-year-old singer opened up on the subject of women accepting who they were in an interview for the August issue of 25A Magazine.

'You can embrace your flaws,' the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley insisted while admitting that such an act could be difficult.

'I've been very honest with the press,' Alexa said when asked about her own image issues. 'The only thing I have ever had done is my nose.'

In 2010, Alexa had rhinoplasty surgery to correct a deviated septum and to gain a better self-image.

'I liked everything else about my physical appearance,' she told People at the time. 'But [my nose] always bothered me a bit. I had thought about it for five years.'

'I think I look more like me than my father's daughter now.'

Despite her own need to change her appearance - however slightly - Alexa wanted to be a role model to other young women facing pressure over their appearance.

'My dream is to be able to promote a message of honesty, whether with music or in anything that I'm doing,' she said in the 25A interview.

'I don't think to be a role model you have to be perfect,' she added. 'I want to be a voice for young women.'

Alexa noted that the current cultural climate did not make embracing imperfection an easy task for most women.

'There's a lot of pressure on young women,' she said. 'We need more honest women who are willing to talk about their struggles.'
