Ellen DeGenres leads tributes to self-help guru Wayne Dyer who has died at the age of 75

  • His family released a statement saying he passed away during the night 
  • It is unclear how the Detroit-born motivational speaker died 
  • Dyer wrote over 40 books including 20 New York Times bestsellers   

Ellen DeGeneres has led the tributes to self-help guru Wayne Dyer who has passed away at the age of 75.

The Detroit-born motivational speaker and best-selling author died in his sleep, according to his family.

A statement on Facebook read: 'Wayne has left his body, passing away through the night. He always said he couldn't wait for this next adventure to begin and had no fear of dying.

Self-help guru Wayne Dyer has passed away at the age of 75, his family have revealed 

'Our hearts are broken, but we smile to think of how much our scurvy elephant will enjoy the other side.'

It is unclear how he died but, according to his website, he was battling leukemia. 

DeGenres uploaded a picture of Dyer officiating her marriage to Portia De Rossi with the message: 'The world has lost an incredible man. Wayne Dyer officiated our wedding & was an inspiration to so many. Sending love.'

De Rossi also tweeted about her dear friend, posting: 'Wayne will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him but his teachings will live on forever.' 

Fellow motivational speaker Tony Robbins also wrote: 'Wayne Dyer has passed away today. 4 those of us who loved him it's sad, but he knew death was a transition. We send love 4his next adventure.'

He was the author of over 40 books, including 20 New York Times bestsellers and has appeared on thousands of television and radio shows. He also has 10 PBS Specials which have raised over $250 million dollars for public television.

His first book Your Erroneous Zones, written in 1976, is believe to be one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 35 million copies sold around the world.

After studying education counselling and clinical psychology, he started to turn towards spiritual aspects.

He once said: 'My purpose is to help people look at themselves and begin to shift their concepts. Remember, we are not our country, our race, or religion. 

'We are eternal spirits. Seeing ourselves as spiritual beings without label is a way to transform the world and reach a sacred place for all of humanity. '

His fans described him as the 'father of motivation'.
