As she focuses on perfecting her Dancing With the Stars choreography, Bindi Irwin has a very special inspiration-her late father, Steve Irwin. 

The 17-year old grew up in the public eye following the tragic death of her then 44-year-old Crocodile Hunter dad in 2006, and has vowed to honour his legacy by continuing his animal activism and conservation work.

Now, the bubbly blonde again promises to channel her father's vibrant enthusiasm as she switches her iconic khaki button-up shirt for a glittering wardrobe on Dancing With The Stars US.

Dancing With The Stars may be a change of pace from her conservation work at Australia Zoo, but Bindi isn't shy to admit that it was her father's positive attitude that inspired her to take the plunge.

'Dad was one person who no matter what he did in life he just took it by storm, and he was so passionate and really lived in the moment' Bindi told US ABC News in a recent interview.

'Whatever the opposite of a procrastinator is, that was him... and I think I kind of inherited a little bit of that,' she added. 'I'm hoping to make dad proud.'

The TV star revealed that she was joining the cast of Dancing With The Stars earlier last month, and has since beenspotted wearing a sparkly dance costume as she arrived at a rehearsal for the show in Hollywood.

Still breaking them in: the bubbly blonde admitted to her Instagram followers that she's still getting used to wearing heels as she arrived in LA last week wearing a pair of heeled booties

Earlier this week, Bindi took to Instagram after hopping off an LA-bound flight, writing the caption: 'Still trying to get used to wearing heels though.' 

Accompanying this message was a snap of herself wearing a pair of heeled, lace-up booties and some casual, ripped jeans.

'Girls in Heels right now, reading this - I have major appreciation for you,' she added before signing off the caption with: 'Love, The Girl Who Mostly Lives In Khaki & Boots x.'

Watching Bindi from side stage will be her mum Terri, 51, who has traveled to the US to support her daughter as she prepares to take the DWTS stage.

Bindi's reported boyfriend Chandler Powell, 18, who she has described as 'really special', will also be cheering the bubbly blonde on.

Appearing on Good Morning America, the regular TV star said she felt 'so honoured to be a part of this new journey and chapter in my life.'
