Dakota Johnson showed while she may not be always be on the red carpet Best Dressed Lists, when it comes to the street she has got IT style down to a science.

The 25-year-old gave a master class on how look cool without being too overdone as she and a friend headed out in New York on Sunday.

Proving her fashion chops, the Fifty Shades Of Grey actress hit the streets of Manhattan in a pair of vintage-inspired high waisted co-called 'mom jeans'.

While the look is fast becoming the go-to cut for cool girls everywhere, it is no the the easiest to wear but Dakota managed to shine.

The actress kept with her understated style theme by wearing the button fly denims with a simple white T-shirt which she tucked into the jean's high waistline.

Dakota further accesorised the look with a pair of black ballet flats which tied around her ankle, a pair of round lensed sunglasses and she ported a big pebble leather black bag.

Adding to her 'I just woke up like this' coolness, she went without little makeup and left her brown hair falling messily in a bob.

Dakota and her friend - who also wore mom jeans - then jumped in a waiting SUV to run some errands around New York.

No doubt the two ladies also indulged in the Manhattan Sunday must-do of brunch.

Dakota has a little time on her hands at the moment having just finished up filming the romantic comedy How To Be Single opposite Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie, Leslie Mann and Damon Wayans and set for a February 12, 2016 release.

But she will not be so free for very long, as she also has two Fifty Shades Of Grey sequels in the works and she also has completed two films for release later this year.

One of them is Black Mass starring Johnny Depp in the title role, focusing on the true story of Whitey Bulgar who was the most infamous criminal in South Boston and became an FBI informant.

Dakota also has a role in the crime drama A Bigger Splash starring Tilda Swinton and Matthias Schoenaerts.
