Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus  a 'b****' during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The 32-year-old rapper made it a point to call out the 22-year-old singer, who was serving as host for the evening, shortly after receiving the award for Best Hip-Hop video at the gala held in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Toward the end of her speech the Starships rapper said:  'And now back to this b**** that had a lot to say to me in the press. What's good?'

The 22-year-old Party In The USA hitmaker, who was standing on a different platform on-stage replied by saying: 'We are all in this industry, we all do interviews and we all know how they manipulate s***. Nicki congratulations.'

Several viewers believed that the confrontation may have actually been staged as Nicki flashed a smile before the camera turned to Miley.

But a show insider told Us Weekly that Nicki's anger was 'very real and not a pre-planned bit at all.'

'Nicki was livid with Miley and decided to air her feelings onstage,' the insider told the publication, adding that MTV staffers 'had to be sure Nicki and Miley didn't cross paths for the rest of the evening because they were legitimately worried about a confrontation happening.'

Ouch: At one point the 32-year-old rapper pointed in Miley's direction as she said: 'And back to this b*** that had a lot to say to me in the press. What's good?'

Be a golden girl in Nicki's flowing gown by Labourjoisie

She won Hip Hop Video of the Year at the VMA’S last night, so it seemed fitting for all round winner at life, Nicki Minaj, to turn up in gold.

The gorgeous rapper dropped jaws when she rocked up in a barely-there plunging golden gown by luxe eveningwear designer, Labourjoisie, and we were pretty hypnotised by her voluptuous curves. What a stunner!

The form-fitting gown brought attention to Nicki’s super svelte waist whilst pushing up her best assets, and with her Cleopatra style hairdo and flicked eyeliner, she oozed Egyptian goddess vibes.

Although you wouldn't necessarily attend your mate's birthday bash in a gown like this, you can certainly take inspiration from Nicki's style and go for gold on your next evening out. It'll certainly make a change from the old LBD.

So get inspired at emulate Nicki's look in a more subtle sense by checking out the affordable alternatives in the edit below, ranging from Asos to Ariella Davina and Missguided - all budgets covered.

A fan recorded video from the MTV live stream showed Miley's reaction to what the Truffle Butter hitmaker had to say as her relaxed demeanor quickly changed when Nicki began talking about her.

Miley had a confused look on her face from underneath a see-through orange visor as she could be seen doing a double-take before saying: 'what?'

Nicki was referring to Miley's recent interview with the New York Times newspaper where the host commented on Nicki's recent social media beef as she said: 'What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It's not very polite.

'I think there's a way you speak to people with openness and love,' she said.

'You don't have to start this pop star against pop star war. It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn't even on what you wanted it to be about.'

Another person Nicki had a 'feud' with coming into the event was Taylor Swift as the two put a united front with a performance at the beginning of the show before the 25-year-old pop-singer took home the biggest award of the night.

At the end of the night it was the blonde beauty walking away with the coveted prize for her Bad Blood clip released earlier this year.

It was stiff competition as she was up against Beyonce's 7/11, Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud, Ronson's Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar's Alright.

While accepting the 'Moonman', the talented artist was joined by a fraction of the stars from the clip including model Martha Hunt, actress Hailee Steinfeld, model Gigi Hadid, actress Serayah, model Lily Aldridge, actress Mariska Hargitay and model Karlie Kloss

Coming into the event, Taylor had the most to win (and lose) as she received nine nominations for two music videos in consideration.

Seven nods were for Bad Blood while two - Best Female Video and Best Pop Video - were for Blank Space.

The 25-year-old singer took home her first award of the night during the televised portion as she came home with the Best Female Video prize for her Blank Space video.

The songstress will competed with Beyonce, Sia, Nicki Minaj and Ellie Goulding in the category. Before the live telecast, she accepted the award for Best Pop Video for the same clip.

Nicki had the privilege of opening up the show in with Trini Dem Girls before going into her hit The Night Is Still Young and being joined by Taylor whom she had a prior 'Twitter beef' with.

Taylor then went into singing the hook of Bad Blood as the girls circled each other before they shared a friendly hug and Nicki introduced Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

It was quite a busy night for Taylor as she presented Kanye West with the one of the biggest awards of the night, the Video Vanguard Award, as she reminisced about the first time that they met when the rapper infamously rushed the stage at the 2009 MTV VMAs.

After graciously accepting the prize from the blonde stunner, he went on a very long and bizarre rant while accepting the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award that ended with an announcement that he is running for president in 2020.

Earlier in the evening Miley celebrated her triumphant return to the awards ceremony - after her twerking escapade with Robin Thicke two years ago - this time as the emcee, at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

She began the event wearing plenty of colour and even taking a crack at her famous country singer father in the process before taking a weird selfie with Rita Ora and several costumed extras.

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran earned six nominations for Thinking Out Loud and Don't. Beyonce and DJ-producer Mark Ronson each scored five nominations.
