Haven't we seen that before? Queen Letizia returns to work in Madrid in chic striped skirt worn on FOUR previous occasions

  • Spain's King Felipe, 47, and Queen Letizia, 42, returned to work in Madrid
  • Felipe showed off a newly clean-shaven appearance for the royal audience
  • Letizia opted for old favourites and wore Hugo Boss striped skirt and shirt
  • Audience included a visit from the trustees of a Spanish blindness charity

She has spent the last month enjoying a family holiday but it was back to work today for Spain's Queen Letizia and King Felipe.

But while a dapper Felipe showed a newly clean-shaven visage, Letizia, 42, chose an old faithful instead -  a striped Hugo Boss skirt and white shirt that has been worn regularly since May 2014.

The ensemble, which was worn with a pair of nude courts and her favourite Links of London 'Hope' egg earrings, was last seen during a meeting with Europa students at the Zarzuela Palace in July.

Prior to that, the 'Marela' skirt and 'Bashina' shirt were worn for official appearances in June and September 2014 and for an audience in May 2014 shortly before she was crowned queen.

This time, the ensemble was donned for an audience that included a visit from trustees of the ONCE association - an organisation dedicated to helping blind people living in Spain.

Letizia, a former journalist, has long championed the cause of blindness, which, along with Spanish culture and the media, has formed a central part of her charitable efforts.

Today's appearance is the Spanish royal couple's first since returning from a low key month in on the Balearic island of Mallorca.

As predecessors King Juan-Carlos and Queen Sofia did, Felipe and Letizia spend August on the island each year and stay at their holiday home, Son Vent, which sits in the grounds of the Marivent Palace in Palma.

In keeping with Spanish royal tradition, the family, including the two girls, made an appearance on the steps of the palace for a brief photo call the day after they arrived.

The appearance was the first time that Letizia had been seen in public since the death of her grandfather, Francisco Rocasolano Camacho, on the 25th July.

Despite the heartbreak, the mother-of-two put on a brave face for the pictures and smiled wanly as the cameras went off around her.

Later appearances included an outing on a yacht with daughters Sofia and Leonor and a dinner for local dignitaries in Palma.

However, the schedule was considerably lighter than last year's when the royals undertook one or two engagements a week throughout their holiday.

This week sees a return to business as usual with a series of audiences planned at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid tomorrow alone.
