Gadget review: The Jawbone Mini Jambox
Rating:
Price: £149.99
Fun. That's the first word that comes to mind when reviewing the Jawbone Mini Jambox.
As you would expect from a product with mini in its name, it's small and portable. You can put it into your pocket to take your music with your round the house.
You can take it into the bathroom for when you're having a shower or a bath, whereas with bigger speakers you'd be reluctant to move them.
Fun, fun, fun: The Mini Jambox is available in several colours and is extremely light
Slight: The Mini Jambox is about half as tall as a regular length pen
It's light (255g) and measures just over six inches in length, is two-and-a-quarter inches high and less than one inch wide.
The battery life is an impressive 10 hours, and while that's quite a bit shorter than it's big brother (the Big Jambox), it's good for a speaker of this size.
It comes in a variety of colours, featuring similar patterned mesh fronts to the Jambox and Big Jambox.
The mini features two front-facing proprietary drivers and a passive bass radiator, with vocals coming through particularly clearly and crisply.
The only aspect of the Mini Jambox's sound which isn't quite tip-top is the bass, which could be a little more powerful.
Petit: The Mini Jambox can fit in your pocket and is designed to be taken places
As before, you connect the speaker via Bluetooth to your phone or laptop, which is painless and quick.
For such a little thing it creates a lot of noise and even on full volume there is no distortion.
This speaker couldn't power a huge house party, but it will certainly fill a room with sound.
When taking calls with the speaker, the voice of the person you're talking to comes through clearly, but ideally you'd be sitting directly in front of the speakers for them to hear you with similar quality sound.
It's not exactly cheap, priced in the UK at around £140, but the sound quality and design are as good as you might want from a 'fun' set of speakers.
The Mini Jambox is not the very best sounding set of speakers out there - but is superb for its size - and if you also care about aesthetics and design quality, it could well be the one that's best suited to you.
