Dominic Cooper looks the ultimate action hero as he brandishes large firearm whilst filming scenes for new movie Stratton

It was a part that was originally landed by Superman actor Henry Cavill.

But Dominic Cooper looked like he was made for his role in new movie Stratton as he shot high-octane action scenes along London's River Thames on Wednesday.

Brandishing a large firearm, whilst also being clad in a number of other dangerous weapons, the 37-year-old actor looked to be submerged into his character as he filmed the thrilling scenes.

Despite looking like he could take on the world, the Mamma Mia! actor still enlisted the help of a stunt double during a move that saw his character jump from a barge and into a passing boat.

Once on the vessel, Dominic continued to aim his gun toward a seemingly posing threat, while one of his co-stars steered the boat.

The British actor looked the ultimate action man in a black boiler suit which featured a number of compartments for him to store his numerous weapons.

The new movie sees Cooper play the titular role of John Stratton, an SBS (Special Boat Service) operative, who works alongside MI6 to prevent a terrorist attack in London.

Helmed by The Expendables 2 director Simon West, the movie is based on a series of books by ex-SBS agent Duncan Falconer and features the likes of Harry Potter star Tom Felton and Humans' Gemma Chan.

Cavill was originally supposed to portray Dominic's role, though the actor pulled out of the action-thriller just five days before shooting was to due to commence because of 'creative differences' on the script.

Before announcing his exit, the 32-year-old actor said of the part: 'I’ve long wanted to tell a story about the British Special Forces, and finally the opportunity has come around.

'Duncan Falconer’s work is fantastic, and we are incredibly fortunate to be working with him so closely.'

'We plan to convert the books to cinema as accurately as possible while keeping them topical. Simon West is a perfect match for this movie with his ability to marry storytelling and action, both of which are essential to do this project justice.'
