Katie Holmes unleashed her pent-up anger when she filmed All We Had on Thursday.

Just a day after euphorically dancing in the rain beside her co-star Stefania Owen, the 36-year-old was spotted furiously charging towards a car as she filmed her directorial debut in New York.

The typically poised star was a far cry from her usual self when she threw herself into the heated moment.

Katie's brunette locks moved wildly as she rushed towards her vehicle, with a cameraman standing a mere inches away to capture the fiery scene.

As the former Dawson's Creek actress angrily pushed her vehicle, her 17-year-old co-star Stefania - who portrays her 13-year-old daughter Ruthie - stood calmly by the car.

Katie's bright purple bra was evident beneath her tight white tank top, which put her toned arms on display during her emotional outburst.

The actress - who plays poverty-stricken Rita Carmichael in the drama - appeared drained when she wasn't getting in touch with her erratic side.

Donning a pair of flared jeans and hippie chic platform sandals, Katie's makeup appeared smeared beneath her eyes.

However, the Batman Begins actress looked relieved as she took a breather from the heavy scene.

Katie even cracked a smile as a makeup artist touched-up her face.

That same day Katie and her on-screen daughter were spotted carrying multiple belongings as they filmed another scene for All We Had.

Katie's impressive strength was displayed as she had her arms laden with numerous items.

All We Had tells the story of a struggling single mother and her daughter who move to the small town of Grand River, Ohio, in the wake of the 2008 financial collapse and in the hope of making a better life for themselves.

The film - which is an adaptation of Annie Weatherwax's debut novel of the same name - was commissioned by Katie in July 2014, a month before the book was published.

Katie will have no doubt been able to empathise with her character on a personal level as she secured primary custody of her and Tom Cruise's nine-year-old daughter Suri following their divorce in 2012.

Katie married Tom in a Scientologist ceremony in Italy in November 2006 and filed for divorce five years later in January 2012.

Luke Wilson - who's starred in That 70's Show and had a handful of cameo roles in a variety of big-screen productions - also stars in the upcoming release although his role has not been specified yet.
