Hi, I wonder if this app is really meant to work on a tablet. I am trying to work Postpartum Bleeding into Finnish using Safari, but only with very poor success:

1) no machine translation being available, there is no interest in loading the English into the translation field, OK with that, but by doing this I lose all the references. I know of no way of getting them there!

2)it is virtually impossible to get wiki links on the right words: I paint the expression, roll upwards to operate the linking tool, and on going back find the link on most bizarre words. Not once or twice but continually after my text measures more than an inch. Also when operating the linking tool I'm all too near hitting the Publish button. Scary and frustrating! Idea: make the linking tool hover and flow where it is called to work.

Any ideas? Paj (talk) 19:21, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi,

I followed the guideline and translated the main page to Vietnamese.

However when I switched to Vietnamese language, I cannot see translated text. There is only English one.

Any one please help me.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks for your interest in the tool.

If I understand this correctly, you are referring to the fact that automatic translation is not available for Vietnamese. As a result, when adding a paragraph, the source text is copied (with the links adapted to point to the Vietnamese version of articles if they exist).

Machine translation is not available for all languages (we have a ticket to track community requests about it). Even without machine translation, the tool has been useful for several communities (e.g., French have created more than 1800 translations already). We are interested in hearing about any issues when translating so that we can make the experience more fluent when machine translation is missing.

In the past few weeks the app has been too buggy to even consider a translation (From en-es&es-en). I've been trying to get in touch with some devs in irc (#mediawiki-i18n) without any success, another user told me to go to phabricator but didnt tell me where should I go and phab seem to big for me.

Problems *Apertium doesn't work and when it works (on rare occasions) the auto-save feature is disable, the thing to do from there is refresh the page, only to lose the advanced work (by hand).

I like to note that before this, I've been using the app for at least three months without any serious issue.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that.

I just tried using it and it works for me with machine translation from English to Spanish, and the saving works, too.

Which article did you try to translate? Which browser and operating system did you use?

Do you see any errors if you open the JavaScript console (Ctrl-Shift-K in Firefox, Ctrl-Shift-J in Chrome)?

Oscar . (talkcontribs)

Hi @Amire80

Thanks for the response, I'm been working in "Colombia–Venezuela relations" and "Market risk" (English to Spanish) and I'm using Chrome (version 45.0.2454.85 m) with W10.

This is the message I got with the JS console (about ten minutes ago):

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'innerHTML' of null

Thoughts?

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

OK, I suspect that the "innerHTML" part is the thing that causes the bug. It probably appears in one of the gadgets that you use or in one of the JS scripts under your user page. Quite likely it's Usuario:Nixón/botones.js, which is called from :w:es:Usuario:Oscar_./vector.js. Can you please try removing the line "importScript('Usuario:Nixón/botones.js');" from vector.js and seeing if it fixes your problem? If it does, then :w:es:Usuario:Nixón/botones.js will have to be fixed, and I'll be happy to help fixing it.

If removing that line doesn't help, tell me and I'll help you find where this is.

Oscar . (talkcontribs)

I removed the line, and then everything from my /vector.js /commons.js and just all the gadgets of my preferences (just to be sure).

And nothing happen, the same error seems to be happening (or a different one?)

Why can't I add categories in the language I am translating into with hotcat? Almost all projects have this gadget by now

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

Hi,

You can add categories after publishing the first version of the page.

In the future we may have the possibility of adding categories straight from the translation interface, but we don't have a due date for this.

I just lost the work of the last hours translating from Russian to Hungarian. The top line said "saved a minute ago" but when I left for the list of my list of translation and returned to this one, I lost everything I made in the last few hours.

Could you help with this? I feel really useless now.

Amire80 (talkcontribs)

Hi,

Which article did you try to translate?

Bobbyshabangu (talkcontribs)

It's a useful tool I like it. It also encourages one to translate more information than the copying and pasting that one had to do before.

Pginer-WMF (talkcontribs)

Thanks!

Saving time is one of the key goals for the project. We believe that by removing the boring steps of translation, users can better focus on creating quality content. Thanks for sharing your experience, and don't hesitate to introduce the tool to other users that may find useful too.

Whenever I try to publish my translation, I'm asked to "answer" the safety "question"(in Portuguese, it's called "pergunta de segurança"), but there isn't anything. How can I publish the article, then? Please, help me.
