Account Coordinator: Penny Richards

ScotlandsPeople is an online archive containing almost 90 million records covering genealogical information related to Scotland. The site is a partnership between National Records of Scotland, Court of the Lord Lyon and D. C. Thomson & Co. We recognize that most of these materials are primary sources but they should assist Wikipedia editors in improving Scottish biographical articles. ScotlandsPeople is offering 50 accounts to their database. Unlike some other TWL resources, ScotlandsPeople will provide approved Wikipedia users with 1000 credits to use on the site to access online records, instead of a time-limited account.

Included resources[edit]

The records included in this partnership are:

  1. SatuSuro (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - 100k edit user, belong to/had subscription and utilised Scotlands people in 2009 when in Edinburgh (missed out on using it when in edinburgh in 2013 unfortunately), and very impressed (telling many people in Australia that its the best service of its kind that I had encountered). At this stage in my wp en editing - mainly have been tagging project labels for Scottish categories - access to this service would be excellent aid to expanding personal capacity within scottish wikipedia project in relation to specific people and subjects... satusuro 23:52, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

  2. Softlavender (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I do a lot of biographies, and have particularly been focusing on some Scottish entertainers and notables (and sometimes their families) including Ian Charleson, Jack Lowden, List of University of Edinburgh people, etc. I have actually been using Scotland's People to attempt look-ups of birth data (date, place), but it gets quite costly especially when I guess wrong about someone's birth name or place and then have wasted a lot of money. Would love to have a complimentary account. Thanks! Softlavender (talk) 05:38, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

  10. Anne Delong (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) 50,000+ edits. I am actively adding references to pages submitted at AfC as well as some in mainspace, and I can use this access to confirm and cite information about people and historical topics related to Scotland, and to add dates and locations to Wikidata. I am also an experienced genealogist, so I am familiar with the reliability (or lack thereof) of various types of genealogical records.—Anne Delong (talk) 05:40, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

  13. Nigej (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Is it possible to apply again? I'm down to 38 credits and would like to do much more. See Wikipedia:ScotlandsPeople/Experiences for feedback I wrote in February. A new user, User:♥Golf, has created many new pages for Scottish golfers and I would like to carry on my previous editing to add birth and death details. Nigej (talk) 08:09, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
@Nigej: Approved Just re-fill out the form from the original email - let me know if you no longer have it. Nikkimaria (talk) 13:27, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
  14. ♥Golf (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have written dozens of articles on Scottish golfers, and have plans to write many more. I don't usually have access to records such as DOB and DOD for these Scottish citizens so having access to ScotlandsPeople would be fantastic. User:Nigej has been great in filling in missing information and I really do appreciate his/her assistance.--EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 08:31, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

  15. Ragityman (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I do most of my WP edits as I research, when I notice inconsistancies, errors, and omissions. My ancestry is English, Irish and Scots, and, though I have barely scratched the surface thus far, I hope to do much more in the near future. I am interested in the history of engineering, technology and science in Scotland, as well as genealogy and heritage. I have not been much of an article creator, thus far, but my work situation is changing, so that I will have more time to devote to more labor-intensive projects. Rags (talk) 21:49, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Example (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)) I recently lost access to my WP account, so do not have a contribution history for your reference. I am a history nut with Scottish heritage and help to fill out WP articles with connections and additional information I find during my research. Particularly interested in Scotland's history and its relationship with other cultures and powers.
@Nearthling: Pending Would you feel comfortable sharing with me your former account name, by email if needed? Nikkimaria (talk) 17:36, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
  17. Jellyman (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been editing Wikipedia for almost ten years and have accumulated nearly 9,000 edits with 67 pages created. 20. Vancouveriensis (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) It would be useful to have access to be able to verify biographical and other historical details relating to Scotland, Canada, and elsewhere. I expect that it would increase the number of contributions I can make. I have contributed over the years on a wide range of wikipedia projects, including adding and improving articles, monitoring their sources and accuracy.(Vancouveriensis (talk)
@Vancouveriensis: You qualify, but your Wikipedia account doesn't seem to be associated with a valid email address--if you can get that settled, I can continue with the approval process.Penny Richards (talk) 17:00, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
