ഓഷ്യാനിയയിലെ ഒരു രാജ്യമാണ് പാപുവ ന്യൂ ഗിനിയ (Tok Pisin: Papua Niugini). ന്യൂ ഗിനിയ ദ്വീപിന്റെ കിഴക്കു ഭാഗവും അനവധി ദ്വീപുകളും ചേർന്ന ഈ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനം പോർട്ട് മോറെസ്ബി ആണ്.
ലോകത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവുമധികം സാംസ്കാരികവൈവിധ്യം നിറഞ്ഞ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ ഇവിടത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യ എഴുപത് ലക്ഷത്തിനോടടുത്താണെങ്കിലും 850 പ്രാദേശികഭാഷകളും അത്രയുംതന്നെ പരമ്പരാഗതമായ സമൂഹങ്ങളും നിലവിലുണ്ട്. 82 ശതമാനത്തോളം ജനങ്ങൾ ഗ്രാമപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലാണ് നിവസിക്കുന്നത്[6] സാംസ്കാരികപരമായും ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായും ഈ രാജ്യത്തിനെക്കുറിച്ചു് വളരെക്കുറച്ചുമാത്രമേ പുറം ലോകത്തിന് അറിയുകയുള്ളൂ, ഇവിടത്തെ ഉൾനാടുകളിൽ ഇന്നുവരെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ജന്തുക്കളും സസ്യങ്ങളുമുണ്ടെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.[7]
