It's been a great week for villains. From the announcement today that DC Comics' Villains Month (where bad guys took over all of the Publisher's titles for thirty days) sold more than four million copies, to Walter White finally Breaking his final Bad, anti-heroes are the new heroes. For that reason—and way more, which we'll list below—villains who don't think they're villains are our hero of the week! Also, it just sounded nice and weird.

'Arrow' Is Our Hero Of The Week!

Even though the DC Comics TV show isn't returning for a second season until October 9th, "Arrow" kept us busy all week long with a number of exciting updates. The show's successful first season and explosive season finale have left fans eagerly awaiting a return trip to Starling City, and the people behind "Arrow" have been dropping massive hints about the series' superhero-studded future all summer long.

A number of new faces will be joining the cast, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Amanda Waller and Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev. This past week has seen a number of new updates regarding the show, as well as a number of new shirtless promo photos. Never change, "Arrow."

'Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Is Our Hero Of The Week

As if "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had any real competition for Hero of the Week. This show dominated the news this week, with trailers, teasers, photos, interviews and more taking up a healthy chunk of this blog's output as well as our hearts. Seriously, even with only 3ish minutes of footage released, people are getting very excited for this show.

And rightfully so. If Joss Whedon has proven anything, it's that he knows how to make TV shows that people fully invest in. Yeah, we're all super pumped for "S.H.I.E.L.D." right now, but just wait until it starts. This show is going to be huge and, for the first time ever, Joss might actually have a show that attracts a big audience.

Kryptonians Are Our Hero Of The Week

While "hero" is a bit of a stretch where a lot of these Kryptonians are concerned, what they lack in positive intent they made up for in interesting content. Between "Man of Steel's" acclaimed new trailer, the General Zod viral marketing and Superman and Lois Lane's 75th birthday celebration, Kryptonians provided a lot of fun and exciting content on Splash Page this week.

Things seemed quiet on the "Man of Steel" front for most of 2013, but that all changed this week. As you'll see below, this was the week that Superman and his cast of characters dropped by to give us all something we really needed this week: hope. It's maybe ironic that an alien character represents the absolute best that humanity has to offer, but that's definitely the case made in the latest trailer for Zack Snyder's Superman film. Considering how harrowing everything outside of the comic book movie world has been this week, I can't think of a more appropriate hero. The world needs Superman and human beings that strive for the ideals that he represents.

Captain America Is Our Hero Of The Week

When it comes down to which superhero got us the most pumped up this week, it surprisingly turned out to be the hero whose film won't come out for another year. But really, this was the week that "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" arrived. First official photo? New costume? Official synopsis? Video confirmation that the delightfully weird Batroc will be in the sequel? Yep, this was an exciting week to be a Captain America fan.

On one hand it's a shame that we have to wait a year for this excitement to really pay off. But on the other hand, we're about to embark on a lovely, yearlong courtship with the sequel. We still have a poster to look forward to, and more official set photos. There'll be delightful rumors about the film's plot and possible cameos. We have toys to look at (or play with...) and junior novelizations to read. And don't forget the trailers, TV spots, teasers, and teasers of teasers! As excited as we are about seeing Captain America in his next adventure, we're also excited about every single one of those things listed.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray Box Set Is Our Hero Of The Week

Its title may be a mouthful, but we're going to let that slide since this one box set delivered so many mind-blowing goodies this week. The box set, which came out on April 2nd, contains all of Marvel's Phase One movies: "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Marvel's The Avengers." But, as we learned pretty much every day this week, the box set contains more than just the films themselves. Featurettes, concept art, GIF-able behind the scenes moments, memorabilia and more were all crammed into the collectible briefcase, along with a tiny Tesseract. It's rare that a box set really brings the goods to back up the hype; this box set has proven to be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir.

Star-Lord Casting Rumors: Our Hero Of The Week

In 2014, Marvel Studios takes to the stars with "Guardians of the Galaxy," about a group of intergalactic warriors fighting to keep our world alive. It's not one of Marvel's more recognizable properties — indeed, some would call it an odd choice for the studio's next all-new franchise — but it's quickly becoming one of its most interesting.

Take, for example, the hunt to cast Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians. We haven't seen a casting search this competitive since Chris Evans landed Steve Rogers after months and months and months of rumors, supposed screen-tests and almost-deals. Watching the process has been endlessly entertaining, but more than that, it's been exciting — namely because the actors being mentioned for Star-Lord are, for the most part, awesome.

Heroes Of The Year: 'Avengers' Director Joss Whedon

Throughout the week, we'll be presenting the Heroes of the Year, our list of individuals who made a major impact on the comic book movie community in 2012.

Our final hero of the year is the director behind the most successful comic book adaptation of all time: Joss Whedon. Honoring him is one of Whedon's frequent collaborators, Jane Espenson, co-creator of the web series "Husbands," among other projects.

Being asked about the impact Joss Whedon has had on comic book movies is like being asked about the impact the moon landing had on moon exploration. What Joss did with comic book movies in "The Avengers" is the same thing he did with teen horror in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and space opera in "Firefly."

Heroes Of The Year: 'Walking Dead' Season Three

Throughout the week, we'll be presenting the Heroes of the Year, our list of individuals who made a major impact on the comic book movie community in 2012.

Though it's not a film, it's impossible not to acknowledge "The Walking Dead" for its monstrously good third season, currently on hiatus. Honoring the show's return to form is Jorge Solis, a horror and comic book expert who writes for Bloody-Disgusting.com.

At first, you wouldn't think of adding "The Walking Dead" to our list of Heroes of the Year after the slow second season. The search for Sophia dragged on and took longer than the search for Claire in season one of "Lost." But season three started off with one hell of a bang, with a dialogue-free opening sequence, as Rick and his remaining ensemble storm into an abandoned house, gunning down walkers, and gathering little food they could find. Putting his own stamp on the series, showrunner Glen Mazzara brought us forward in time, providing only the necessary details about what happened in the off-season.

Heroes Of The Year: 'Dark Knight Rises' Director Christopher Nolan

Round three is all about celebrating the end of a legend: "Dark Knight" trilogy director Christopher Nolan, who finished his run on Batman this year with "The Dark Knight Rises." Honoring the filmmaker is Bill Ramey, the founder of Batman-On-Film.com.

"Game-changer." That's the moniker that immediately comes to mind when it comes to Christopher Nolan and his influence on the comic book film genre.
