UPDATED Christopher Cerk (pictured), a 21-year-old junior at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, said that living right next to his institution didn't suit him - and was a waste of money to boot. So instead of dropping an estimated $19,000 renting for his last two years, he poured $13,000 of his own money into raw materials for his own tiny house (exterior top right, interior right). The home, which took him more than a year to build in his spare time, has a compost toilet and solar panels for electricity. He estimates the power supply will be enough to keep his cell phone and laptop running, as well as to power an electric stove. Cerk said he will start having his girlfriend over to stay soon.

While many would think twice before stepping foot into eerie crumbling factories or decaying medical centres, photographer Anna Mika chooses to explore them to discover their subtle allure. The plucky 25-year-old from Poland's mysterious collection called, Urbex - Urban Exploration, features mines, factories, hospitals, both Polish and abroad.

Russia holiday homes teeter over 250ft deep sinkhole caused by mines

Seawater used in nearby mines has been blamed for causing the enormous crater in the Perm region of central Russia. The sinkhole has grown to 400ft across and is said to be visible from space. Latest images, taken from a helicopter, show the abyss threatening forests on two sides, as well as more homes now standing on the edge of the gaping precipice. The site is two miles from the nearest town but was a regular summer getaway destination until the holiday homes were abandoned in 2005 following concerns the ground was sinking. One local source said as many as 20 cottages, unoccupied at the time, have now sunk into the chasm.

Queensland residents be warned, there may be an enormous snake lurking right underneath your toilet seat. Snake catcher Elliot Budd, from Townsville, in north-east Queensland, was called out to a property in Mount Stewart after a group of tradesmen discovered a massive carpet python coiled up in the downstairs loo. 'It was about three metres long - definitely one of the biggest I have ever relocated,' Mr Budd told Daily Mail Australia.
