I truly love the program, I just have a very difficult time fitting art into our daily routine. This past year has been especially hard with all of our life changes.

Recently I got our DVDs back out and let Ladybug choose a project from the 1st grade DVD.  She chose Impressionistic Painting.

First, we watched the DVD lesson together, which she loved.

She drew about 5 scenes in pencil before choosing the one she liked and wanted to paint.  I stayed out of it completely and let her interpret the lesson as she wanted.

She LOVED the end result and honestly the entire process was a joy with her.  I stressed myself out in the past by doing a project with all three of my kids at once.  This was so much more fun.  It seems my personality is better doing art one kid at a time!

Starry Night Art Project

We have been using Home Art Studio for a long time now.  You can see all of the projects I have blogged about here!

It took me awhile to get in the art-groove this school year as we went through some transitions. My kids were excited to get back to work! We recently used the 3rd grade DVD for a project that I included all 3 kids in on! That’s one of the things I love about this program, I can easily pick a project I think all three of my kids can do.  If I want them to work individually I can do that too, totally flexible!

I knew it would be messy, but I decided to give Starry Night a try with all three {K, 3rd, 7th}.

Starry Night Art Project

I learned early on to gather the supplies ahead of time.  I am not an art-lover so I must be prepared to save my sanity. The printable lessons really help so I know what we need even before we watch the DVD lesson together.

After we watched the DVD lesson all together, we went to the table to work.  I must be honest and let you know that I pre-prepared the shaving cream base for each child.  My sanity couldn’t handle them all ding this at once.

I did drizzle their paint but they did all of the stirring and mixing.

We were all VERY impressed with the beauty before we even got to the paper part of the project!

Making the marbleized paper for the background was messy, for sure but the result was beautiful!

Ladybug drew her own city skyline and I cut it out for her.  She insisted that “Starry Night needed star stickers. I think she’s right.

The boys drew and cut their own city skylines and glued them on.  All kids were very pleased with the results!

Home Art Studio ~ Falling

Home Art Studio

We were given Home Art Studio to review over a year ago and are still using it! It is a great home art curriculum, we are happy to have it! This lesson, Falling Back in Space, is from the 3rd grade DVD, which I am still completing with PacMan.  Yes, I know I am slow and I do tend to avoid art. I am trying though!

He watched the DVD with me and decided he wanted to make himself falling back into the ocean instead of space.  Overall it took 3 different days to complete this project, to allow things to dry.

Home Art Studio ~ Peacock

Home Art Studio

We were given Home Art Studio to review over a year ago and are still using it! It is a great home art curriculum, we are happy to have it! This lesson, creating a peacock, is from the 1st grade DVD, which I chose to just do with Krash instead of all of the kids.  I need to save my sanity.

On day 1, he watched the DVD lesson, which taught him not only the art procedure, but also about peafowl.  He learned that only the males are called peacocks!

We then went to the table where he drew his outlines and painted the base of the peacock.

We did experience a minor setback, as all of my kids struggle when they can’t draw as well as the teacher. He had a bit of a breakdown which resulted in a hug and some pep talking from me.

He wanted to start over and I let him.  He wasn’t completely thrilled with his second drawing either but was able to accept it and have fun from that point on.

On the second day, he added the stripes, eye, and circles.

One lovely peacock! He was happy with the end result, and I am glad he stuck with it, I love his peacock!
