Toddler's foot and other body parts wash up in lagoon near Chicago's Garfield Park 

  • The unidentified child's remains were found scattered in the park Saturday

A child's foot and other body parts were discovered Saturday near Garfield Park on the city's West Side, according to the Chicago Sun Times

Police say the remains most likely belonged to a toddler.  

The foot was found around 4:40pm. near the lagoon, in the 200 block of North McCrea Drive, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police Department spokesman

Officers and a search dog then conducted a search, which lead to the discovery of more remains.

The park is closed Saturday night as the investigation continues.

'We are searching the lagoon for human remains,” Anthony Guglielmi, the chief police spokesman, said l. 'No word yet on how any of this happened.'

A police spokesman said police divers had been searching the Garfield Park Lagoon.

Police have ended the search Saturday night and will return at daylight.

'Hopefully, we can find the family,' Alderman Jason Ervin, who represents the 28th Ward, told the outlet. 'I know that somebody is going through something.'
