Of course, Joel has plenty of reasons to smile with his directorial debut The Gift fast becoming a box office smash and his upcoming flick, Black Mass already sparking Oscar buzz.

The L.A living star, who plays FBI agent John Connolly in the flick, was joined on the red carpet by his cast-mates and their other halves, sharing the limelight with the film's other lead Johnny Depp and his new wife Amber Heard.

The trio have clearly become close during the filming of the gangster movie and were pictured sharing a joke together as they sat down for the premiere in Italy.

Throwing his head back with laughter Johnny, 52, slapped Joel's hand as he reached over Amber, 29, ahead of the screening.

Johnny and Amber, who have been besieged by rumours of martial problems since they tied the knot in February, looked loved up as they courted the crowds at the noted event.

Impeccably dressed in a tuxedo, Johnny displayed his handsome looks at the star-studded event, grabbing hold of his wife's slim waist while posing for photographs.

Be pretty in pale pink like Dakota

Dakota Johnson was the epitome of femininity at the Venice Film Festival on Friday night. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress, on hand to promote her latest film Black Mass, chose a pale, dusty pink gown with spaghetti straps, simple drop earrings and casually upswept hair. She makes it all look so effortless.

When you're in Italy, it doesn't hurt to have Prada in your camp. Indeed, the house custom-made this simple silhouette just for Johnson. Sadly, that means you can't buy this exact dress, but you can partake of the pretty blush Prada hue. Click right to check out the fall collection which features pale pink dresses, coats and pantsuit sets.

Fortunately, there are some stunning alternatives online. We think the Always Charming maxi dress is a steal while the Roland Mouret draped silk satin gown at Net-A-Porter is a structural masterpiece.

With her flawless figure on full display, Amber stunned in a floor-length black dress, smiling proudly beside her A-Lister husband.

Meanwhile, Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson stopped the Venice Film Festival red carpet in its tracks, arriving in a sultry powder pink gown.

The gorgeous actress, 25, married simple elegant with a sexy undertone in the backless dress which was held together with delicate straps.

Wearing her hair piled on top of her head, Dakota mastered understated chic, slicked on a crimson lipstick as she threw her head over her shoulder for the cameras.

While she may have shot to fame by her starring role alongside Jamie Dornan in the erotic 2015 flick, Dakota was on the arm of another mega-star on Friday.

She was joined by Black Mass co-star Johnny for the red carpet premiere, which will see the pair unveil their latest work.

Dakota stars as Lindsey Cyr in the biographical drama, a story about Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and one of the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston of the 20th century.

Whitey is played by Johnny and follows the true retelling of how he became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
