Benjani to stay at Blackburn after striker confirms new one-year Rovers deal

Blackburn striker Benjani Mwaruwari will return to Ewood Park for another season despite his contract expiring at the end of last season.

The former Manchester City star, who only managed three goals in 21 appearances last season, revealed he has been offered a new 12-month deal by Rovers boss Steve Kean and is in the process of completing the formalities of the paperwork.

'Yes, I will be back at Blackburn Rovers again next season,' the 32-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph.

'I think the deal will be finalised in the next few days and then I can look forward to doing my best with the club.

'I don't know if there were other clubs who wanted me because I always wanted to come back to Blackburn. I hope that will be sorted now.'

Nikola Kalinic, however, could be on his way out of Ewood Park after his agent revealed the unsettled striker is attracting interest from other clubs.

The Croatia international has failed to cement a first team place since he signed from Hadjuk Split in 2009 and his agent Tomislav Erceg said: 'We want to talk to the coach as soon as possible so we know what happens next.

'‘Nikola is contracted to Blackburn but there are a lot of clubs who we believe would want him.'
