A man on the run from police was finally caught after he was overheard shouting about being a fugitive on the phone in a motel room.

Guests staying in rooms next to Richard Vermalyea's at the Traveler's Motel in Delmar, Maryland, yesterday heard the 32-year-old speaking loudly to a friend on the phone about having an open warrant for his arrest.

They complained about what they had heard through the walls, prompting police to come and claim their man.

Vermalyea, from Rehoboth Beach, Delmar, was arrested at the motel and taken into custody.

He was wanted by authorities for Violation of Probation in a felony theft case and Failure to Appear in the case.

Vermalyea as now been detained on a $10,000 bond on each of the two warrants.

A spokesman for Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said: 'A deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded for a noise complaint at the Traveler’s Motel in Delmar, MD.

'The complaint was in reference to a subject in one of the rooms yelling loudly during a phone conversation about having an open warrant for his arrest.
