Is this the moment Hamilton won his third world title? Rosberg's hopes go up in smoke as engine catches fire leaving Brit to romp home... but Mercedes victory in doubt amid tyre probe

Lewis Hamilton wins the Italian Grand Prix and takes step towards title after Mercedes

JONATHAN McEVOY AT MONZA: Lewis Hamilton's victory at the Italian Grand Prix is under investigation by the stewards on suspicion of his Mercedes having illegal tyre pressure. This came to light after he was given a mysterious late instruction to speed up - presumably to give him a large enough lead to withstand a time penalty or drive-through. For the majority of the afternoon this was not a thrill-a-minute feast for the neutrals - or indeed the partisan Tifosi with their red flags and horns - but, subject to the stewards' decision, it proved another big step towards Hamilton's third world title victory, when Nico Rosberg's engine blew two laps from the end.

Diego Costa is a pale imitation of the striker who lit up the Premier League last

ADAM SHERGOLD: Well, that didn't take long. Just eight games into his international career for Spain and Diego Costa is already being bombarded with criticism. After again drawing a blank for his adopted national team in Saturday's 2-0 win over Slovakia in Euro 2016 qualifying, Costa was seemingly the only topic of conversation. His coach Vicente del Bosque pleaded for patience, saying he believed Costa had the 'most difficult job' on the pitch and reiterating his belief that the goals will be flooding in soon.
