A fifth of holidays are booked on work computers, says new poll
If you've ever wondered why your colleagues occasionally look more happy than they should do dealing with the daily grind, there's a chance they might be booking a holiday rather than addressing their workload.
As many as 21 per cent of people polled in a survey by sunshine.co.uk admitted they sorted out their holiday arrangements during their company's time.
Happy in their work? It's not always work...a survey found that some 21% of people admit to booking holidays from their desk
Chris Clarkson, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said: "We've always wondered if the bookings we receive in what would typically be working hours were made by people at home or those at work who were supposed to be doing what they were paid for.
21st century toy: 11% of those polled said they had made holiday arrangements while 'on the move'
"To see that a fifth of holidays are booked in the workplace was a big surprise. Clearly, employees in the UK are taking liberties when it comes to their working hours and the access they have to the internet. My advice is to always book holidays in your own time."
Of those booking up while in the office, the average time spent sorting out arrangements was a whopping two hours.
However the majority of holidays are still booked from the comfort of home with 42 per cent of trips arranged after browsing the internet. 17 per cent make their getaway arrangements at the home of a friend or relative.
In what is a sign of the times, just 4 per cent of those who have been away recently booked their trip at a high street travel agency, the poll found.
And in another indication of how technology has changed, 11 per cent of bookings were made 'on the move' via smartphones or laptops.
Sunshine surveyed 2,107 UK adults, each of whom had been abroad in the last six months and who had been responsible for the booking.
