Woven paper gift topper

I‘m pretty chuffed with these woven paper gift toppers. They are a sinch to make and look really great with recycled newspaper wrap.

Woven gift topper

The idea originated from this woven yarn gift topper which you can see at giverslog.com and from this image which comes from the book More Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

How-to
♥ Cut some strips of colored paper. Mine were 0.5cm wide. They need to be long enough to wrap around your gift. If you have a paper shredder then this might make the job even quicker!
♥ Line up your vertical strips on a table top…you can use a bit of sticky tape at one end to hold them in place while you weave away.
♥ Weave the horizontal strips into the vertical strips.
♥ Using a bit of sticky tape secure to your gift. Job done!

I also made a rainbow gift topper….no surprise there then!

  5. This is awesome! I’ve tried some woven stuff before, but this is amazing. I didn’t really make it a gift topper this time, but I pasted it on a white piece of paper and it looked great with it! I love craft stuff. I’ve been trying your crafts since I got Internet, but I didn’t know I can comment. I thought you needed an account or something. Anyway, this is great!

  6. Hi Koby,

Glad you managed to figure the commenting bit out. I think most blogs allow you to comment without registering which is pretty cool. Glad you enjoyed the project….you’ll have to email me a photo. Happy crafting! :)

  7. Beautiful! I’m definitely doing this to save money at Christmas! My question is, what do you do with the strips on the bottom of the package?

    1. Hi Jill,

I just tapes the strips neatly where they met together….hope this makes sense. I figured if it was at the bottom of the gift it didn’t really matter too much. in theory you could weave the bottom as well…would be quite tricky though!

  8. This is such a cute idea. Cute enough that I think your whole post may have been stolen. I found this site on Pinterest this morning, http://interests11.blogspot.com/2012/03/woven-paper-gift-topper.html . And I think most of the projects there were someone else’s original ideas. You may want to check it out. I cannot stand theft. And I used to blog and what this lady is doing would have really bothered me.In fact, it bothers me now, enough that I wanted to let some of the authors know.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment Carol Anne…the site no longer exists so guess your message got through.

      Have a nice Easter ^_^

    1. Hi Anna,

I’m really sorry but due to camera shyness and lack of time I generally don’t do video tutorials. Let me know what you are struggling with specifically and I will try to help. ^_^
