During the holidays, we shared a post about decorating for a modern holiday. We created a star burst wall art to add some fun DIY drama in a palette of golds. Many of you commented and asked for the tutorial. Our busy holiday schedule pushed this post back, but we decided to make a new star burst for our upcoming Valentine’s Day decor. This time, we are sharing our step-by-step tutorial which you can find below, so you can make this easy art for any occasion in any color palette to suit your room decor. For this project we used three different colors of metallic papers. I personally prefer to work with a text weight rather than a heavier card stock as the cones form smoothly without any forced folds. All of our paper is from paper-papers.com where you can buy small 25-50 sheet packs of each color. For the Valentine’s Day version we used Ruby, Red Lacquer and Juniper. Of course this piece would be gorgeous in any color and even just one color for all of the pieces. For the gold one I used Antique Gold, Pure Gold and Gold Leaf. Have fun with this and add a little burst to your event or home decor. Cheers ~ Lia

gr8 ideas u have!!!!I think of making a black n silver ones for my pink room….
ohh, I would love to see a picture of it when done!!!
Can you tell me where you bought your paper. How big did you cut your paper for the cones?
I bought my paper at Paper-Papers, the colors are listed in the post. I cut mine 8 1/2x 8 1/2″, any size as long as they are square works.
Can you post where you get your paper? How big do you cut your paper.
Hi Zoe, I got the paper from Paper-Papers, the colors I used are listed in the post but they have hundreds to choose from if you prefer something else. I cut excess paper to make a square. Size depends on preference and what size paper you start out with. I used 8 1/2 x 11″ so I cut to make a square (8 1/2 x 8 1/2″)
I just love this I am working on fixing up my brothers house and this would look wonderful over the fireplace both in the livingroom and the family room. The only question I have is where on your website can I find the instructions. I just love all that you share with us thank you so much .
What a nice sister you are! I have included a photo tutorial at the bottom of the post.
Planning on making 2 for either side of the bed wall. I have bought 12 x 12 metallic paper in purple lilac and silver. Is it possible to make it in 6×6 squares and how big would the card circle need to be? Love your web site I’m also going to make the canvas wall hanging with the cut out triangles (half way through cutting them out!)
Of course 6×6 would look great, as for the circle size I would try 8-10″ circle (but it is hard to tell without having made the size myself) Love the idea of having two on either side of the bed!!
So pretty, and your tutorials are very self-explanatory. Do you think this could be made with felt? I have a feeling storage at my house would not be kind to paper…
Thanks!
You might be able to make it with a stiff felt so it will hold shape.
[…] Buy it. Print it. DIY it. The artwork choices for Valentine’s Day are extra quite a few than we will rely! Use that to your benefit. And who is aware of. You may find yourself liking it a lot that you simply’ll depart it up all yr spherical. (by way of Lia Griffith) […]

Absolutely Beautiful!!! I have ordered the paper form your source. I can’t wait to try it. Would you share the colors you used on the gold one??? I love following you and you have soooo many great craft ideas!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much:) For the gold one I used Antique Gold, Pure Gold and Gold Leaf.
Hi Lia, I absolutely love this idea. I am always trying to make different backdrops for dessert tables and this a great option because you can make it in any color you want! You could even use more than one in different sizes. Although I do have a love hate relationship with hot glue guns
Girl, you need a glue gun with low temperature option. That is the trick to not burn yourself:)
Wow – looks magnificent -)
Thank you!! Big impact for not that much work:)

do you think you could use that mesh fabric people are using now for wreaths it comes on rolls and is very flexible. ???? I saw an angel on the door made with this cone idea and it was pretty large, with a 5 inch Styrofoam head, have you ever seen this pattern???
