Kanwariyas attack Delhi woman for honking her car horn at them

The Capital is not new to road rage, and on Thursday another such incident was reported. This time a 23-year-old woman was molested by a group of kanwariyas in full public view, on the busy stretch of Ring Road near Moolchand flyover.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the victim, a resident of South Extension- I, was driving back home from Okhla mandi along with her father and brother.

The road was witnessing major traffic congestion because of a large group of kanwariyas.

The incident happened when the victim, who was at the driving seat, honked for the kanwariyas to make way.

This angered the group of pilgrims, who in turn blocked the vehicle's path and started abusing the passengers. They also passed lewd comments and made obscene gestures at the girl.

The kanwariyas then threatened the victim and her family to step out and smashed the car's windows, hurting the victim.

"They made obscene gestures in front of the victim," a police officer said, adding that the victim managed to make a call to the PCR after which the police rushed to the spot, but by then the pilgrims had already fled.

A case has been registered under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (damaging the personal property) 506 (threatening), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 of the IPC.
