Former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted that he turned down a string of offers to return to English football this summer in favour of remaining at current side Real Sociedad.

After building up his reputation as one of the most dependable managers in the Premier League following his eleven years at Everton between 2002 and 2013, he endured a torrid 10 months at United, replacing legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson, before getting the sack in April last year.

And after moving to Spain with Basque outfit Sociedad, the Scot is enjoying his sanctuary from the strains of the English game and has apparently shunned the advances of several British clubs.

'I am really enjoying the experience,' he told El Diario Vasco

'I have a very good relationship with the club and I am very happy.

'My first experience of La Liga has been positive – the first six or seven months; my wish was to be able to complete a full season, from start to finish, like this one.

'This summer I received a lot of offers to return to the Premier League but I have decided to stay here because I believe in this project and I believe in the players we have – players who I know much better now.

'The pre-season helped me, not just to get to know what the players are about, but also to understand them on a personal level.'

Moyes guided Sociedad away from the relegation zone last season, and up the table to 12th, and he is confident his Anoeta Stadium club, who recruited former player Asier Illarramendi from Real Madrid this summer, can progress again this term.

'Real Sociedad fans are fantastic; they know that the club is trying to join the other teams who are always in the top part of the table - to get as close to them as possible.

'They understand the club is aiming to do that with operations such as the one that brought me here or the one to bring Illarramendi back; it's part of a very clear philosophy.

'I really appreciate their support a lot and we are working very hard so that they can feel proud of a team which can compete with anyone, every weekend.

'I know how important the team is in this region – you only have to see the number of blue and white shirts around the city.

'I want to collaborate to form a team with a solid base which can last for several years.'

Sociedad have drawn their opening two La Liga matches of the season 0-0 - the first away at Deportivo de La Coruna, and the second at home to Sporting de Gijon.

Moyes' next match in charge is away at Real Betis on September 12.
