United pin hope on help from the Evans as defender nears return
Manchester United centre half Jonny Evans may be back to ease the club’s defensive crisis against Fulham on Saturday.
United lost at Everton on Monday with midfielder Michael Carrick playing at centre back due to injuries to Evans, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Rio Ferdinand.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson was pessimistic when asked if any of them may be fit for Saturday but it is understood Evans has a chance.

The Northern Ireland defender has not played since ankle surgery at the end of last season but has been back in training since August 6. Jones and Smalling are out for the foreseeable future while Ferdinand could play on Saturday if he does not experience more discomfort in his groin.
Striker Danny Welbeck has signed a four-year deal to keep him at United until June 2016, as Sportsmail’s Neil Ashton forecast on August 14. ‘Danny has made fantastic progress,’ said Ferguson.
