Blues raid United for a third time as Clark snaps up striker Macheda on loan

Birmingham have signed Federico Macheda on loan from Manchester United, alongside fellow Red Devils Tom Thorpe and Tyler Blackett.

Macheda is by some distance the highest profile player among the trio snapped up by manager Lee Clarke, having burst on to the scene as a teenager in 2009, when he scored in his first two appearances.

The Italian striker then saw his United career stall and he has since been loaned out to Sampdoria, QPR, Stuttgart and, earlier this season, Doncaster.

Macheda, now 22, scored three times in 15 appearances for Rovers, but failed to find the net in his last 12 matches.

United have no recall clause on the player, who goes straight into Birmingham's squad for their match at Derby on Saturday.
