Selena Gomez reveals she was once insecure about her 'un-feminine' voice...but now embraces huskier register

Selena Gomez was once very self-conscious about the tone and register of her voice.

The actress and singer opened up about her insecurities in a recent tweet explaining how she has learned to love the way she speaks.

'I was always insecure with my speaking voice because it's so low,' the 23-year-old posted on her Twitter account. 'I never felt like it was feminine-sounding.'

Selena went on: 'I didn't know it would be such an asset to who I am now, though. It adds a cool, personal quality. It's exciting.'

It's not the first time the former Disney starlet has revealed her lack of confidence in certain areas of her life.

The pop star has been working on her new album Revival, due out in October, and has said it's going to unveil the new creative direction she's going in.

But, she told Entertainment Tonight last month, while she's excited about the new music, she's also nervous about how fans will react.

'I've been so stressed about everything from the second single to how we're going to present the album,' she told the TV show.

She's also stressed about social media, where she boasts 31.7 million Twitter followers and 40.5 million Instagram followers.

'I don't understand all of that sometimes,' she said. 'I think about things very realistically, because I feel like some of those accounts probably don't even actually exist. I also get very weird about that stuff. I'm like, 'Well, why isn't like everybody selling 40 million albums?''

Selena, who famously dated Justin Bieber on and off for three years, is also going in a new direction by joining the cast of The Voice.

The Good For You singer is partnering with Gwen Stefani on season nine of NBC's talent show.
