EXCLUSIVE: Cardiff set to beat Palace in race for Ramis as Berget becomes THIRD player from Molde to follow Ole to Cardiff

Cardiff City are likely to announce the signing of Ivan Ramis from Wigan on Saturday after holding off competition from relegation rivals Crystal Palace.

The 29-year-old is believed to have agreed personal terms on Friday and will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's fourth signing since he took over from Malky Mackay.

Sportsmail understands Wigan will receive in the region of £1.5million for the former Spain Under 21 defender, barring any unexpected glitches in the paperwork.

Palace boss Tony Pulis was keen to land the Spaniard, but Cardiff offered a substantially better wage package.

Ramis has only made seven appearances for the Latics in the Championship this season after rupturing cruciate ligaments in his right knee in a Premier League game at Fulham last January.

Solskjaer signed Jo Inge Berget from Molde on Friday morning. Berget has signed a two and a half-year contract at Cardiff.

'He (Berget) only has four or five months left on his contract so it is a good deal for us,' Solskjaer said. 'He is strong, clever and  scored against England in the Under 21 Championships. He will do well for us.'

Solskjaer is also close to sealing a loan deal for Manchester United outcast Wilfried Zaha and is hopeful of concluding business this week, as first revealed by Sportsmail.

Solskjaer insisted the 21-year-old has not yet had his medical, but details between the two clubs are almost finished, with Cardiff expected to pick up the tab on Zaha's £35,000 a week wages.

David Moyes was initially reluctant to let Zaha leave while Ashley Young and Nani were injured, but Young's return and Moyes's continued issues with Zaha's behaviour have accelerated the process.

Moyes was extremely unhappy that Zaha was 45 minutes late meeting up with the squad on Monday for a reserve fixture against Middlesbrough in Salford.

The United manager decided that Zaha should be put on the bench, further increasing tensions with the former Crystal Palace player, who had earlier shown his annoyance at being left out of the United squad for Sunday's game at Chelsea.

Sportsmail first revealed Cardiff's interest in Zaha in November, and Solskjaer added: 'Ask Manchester United about him, he is a Man United player. I can't comment on players who are at other clubs. Nothing has been concluded apart from Berget.

'So far, I have brought in three full internationals who will be good value for money in the long-term. They may not have played in the Premier League but I know them and they are full internationals.

'There have been loads of players I have wanted but the price tags are not realistic. We have one or two bids in, yes.'

Cardiff are confident of landing Wigan defender Ivan Ramis. The Spaniard, 29, is understood to have been in Cardiff over the past day to discuss personal terms.
