She hinted to her fans that she was going to give them a sneak peak of her new video during Sunday's VMAs.

And Katy Perry certainly didn't disappoint as she released a 20-second teaser clip of Roar, which showed her swinging from a jungle vine in a leopard print bra top.

While the new single has already been storming the charts after the pop star debuted a lyric video, the new clip will build momentum for the release on September 17.

Knowing how to get her fans excited, Katy tweeted ahead of the music video awards on Sunday night, telling them to keep an eye out.

'Want a sneak peek at the #ROARVIDEO? Have your @Shazam on during preshow or show!' she wrote before she hit the red carpet.

And although she only features in the teaser for a few seconds, the glossy jungle-themed video promises to be action packed as she swings on a large vine.

The clip opens in a jungle, where monkeys, elephants and tigers are disturbed by the pop star who sings just a few seconds of the song.

Katy performed the new single during Sunday night's awards ceremony, dressed as a boxer in a leopard-print cropped top and shorts.

She put on a high energy show for the star-studded audience as she clambered around a boxing ring while sweaty dancers performed behind her.

Katy turned heads on the red carpet ahead of the show as she arrived in a leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro dress, sticking with her jungle theme.

She wore her jet black hair tied up in a chic knot and opened her mouth at one point to reveal a Johnny Dang gold grill.

But the star decided to ditch the striking gown as she was spotted heading to the afterparty in a grunge-inspired ensemble.

She wore a high-waisted plaid skirt with a black leather bralet, paired with thigh-high socks and biker boots.
