Guilty pleasure? Truffles – they’re expensive, but nothing compares to them for flavour. In Sweden recently I had a pizza showered with truffles and it was epic.

Where is home? I have a big Victorian house in my hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and last year bought a beautiful early 19th-century house in France.

Career plan B? Antique dealing – I had an antique shop for a while and did all right.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Seth Rogen or Jack Black.

Biggest bugbear? Computers that say no, because there’s no one to talk to or reason with.

As a child you wanted to be... An astronaut or a Viking.

Earliest food memory? My mum’s wonderful homemade fishcakes.

Secret to a happy relationship? You have to be mates for it to work.

Your best quality? My sense of humour.

And your worst? I worry too much.

Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? I know this is really cheesy, but I bought my wife Lili a sapphire and diamond ring at Christmas and hid it inside a cracker.

Last meal on earth? I never get bored of sushi – I’m like a cat with a tin of Whiskas.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? Penélope Cruz, JMW Turner, Steve Tyler of Aerosmith, Keith Floyd and Thor the Norse god.

Secret skill? Cutting hair.

Essential gadget? My Miele coffee machine.

On a day off we’d find you... Fishing.

Starstruck moment? Watching a meteorite shower in South Africa with Dennis Hopper and talking about Easy Rider. I was beside myself.

Favourite tipple? White burgundy.

What did you have for breakfast today? My hangover cure – a bacon sandwich with brown sauce – as I had rather too much to drink last night!

Top of your bucket list? I’d love to fly in a jet fighter to the edge of space.

Your big break? Meeting [fellow Hairy Biker] Si King in 1995 on The Gambling Man, a Catherine Cookson drama with Robson Green. I was the make-up designer and Si was second assistant director.

Any legacy from your time on Strictly two years ago? I made some really good friends – my dance partner Karen Hauer, her husband Kevin Clifton and his parents have all been to stay with us.

Biggest inspiration? My school art teacher Mr Eton, who changed my life and that of a few other working-class Northern lads.

Motto? If you have an idea, give it a go.

Worst job you’ve done? Night security guard at a Whitechapel fur factory, which had cold stores full of dead animals.

Last film that made you cry? Brassed Off with Pete Postlethwaite.

Where would you time travel to? Georgian London.

First record you bought? Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull.

What do you like spending money on? Cars and motorbikes.

Most underrated virtues? Patience and calmness.

Most overrated? Working long hours.

Celebrity crush? Fiona Bruce on Antiques Roadshow.

Happiness is... Knowing there’s a family and home to come back to.
