The annual Bardog Anniversary Alley Party is back this Sunday. It's time to celebrate seven years of sliders, daily dogs, cold brews and brunch specials at Bardog on Monroe downtown. It's also the 6th anniversary of the Breakaway Bardog 5K, one of Memphis' most popular races, and I'm giving away two entry tickets to the race. Read on to find out how to enter.

Every year since 2008, Bardog Tavern has hosted an anniversary blowout, with all proceeds benefitting St. Jude. They've raised more than $70,000 so far.

New this year: cash prizes for race winners, a bigger and better alley party, more raffle items (including a kayak, bicycles, and tons of gift cards), plus family-friendly fun in the Alley Party (think carnival games, face painting, a dunk tank, cotton candy, etc.)

The 5K starts at 9 a.m. at Bardog. For a $30 advance registration fee (buy here) runners get race entry, shirt, and a bag o' swag. You can also register on the day of the race from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at Bardog for $35.

If you want a chance for you and a friend to enter the race for free ($60 value) all you need to do is leave me a comment on this post telling me why you think the Breakway Bardog 5K is the Best 5K in town.

I'll do a random drawing tomorrow (Thursday) at 9:30 a.m., so be sure to check your email then!

All ages are welcome, but 21 and up to drink, of course

  • Although it can get a little tight, the afterparty makes this one of the best races in Memphis.

  • So my friend and I don't run as much as we drink at Bardog, but we're determined to enter Sunday! To stretch our legs downtown with fellow enthusiastic Memphians, all heading to a favorite haunt would absolutely make for the best 5k in town. Also, it's Bardog. And there will be beer. So honestly, no contest.

  • Love that all of the proceeds go to St. Jude. Great way to mingle with fellow Memphians.

  • Running with beer. Better than with scissors

  • Although I’ve never participated in the 5k, I KNOW it’s the best 5k in town because by the best bar in town. I’m a huge fan of Bar Dog and go there often to have some sliders (best in Memphis) and/or buffalo tenders. I would love to participate in the 5k this year and hopefully I win these tickets! Also shout out to my guy Joe who is bartender downstairs!

  • While other 5K's around town have beer, this is the only one that advocates a proper balance of a healthy & fat-kid lifestyle. With after party food from McEwen's, Aldo's, and specifically the Grandma's Meat balls (epic) from Bardog, this race is well worth the quick, painless sweat.

Also, any excuse to socialize downtown Memphis during Grizz off-season is a blessing in my eyes. Let's grind then celebrate!

  • Lots's of exciting new things this year…. including more room to party for a cause. Also, some local celebrities will be going in the dunk tank this year to fundraise for St. Jude. Dunk tank starts at noon.

  • Would LOVE to run this race with my mom Sunday! We ran it last year and had so much fun! What perfect weather too!

  • The Breakaway Bardog 5K is the best race in town because it brings together Memphians for the most scenic views of the city and the best 5K afterparty of them all! The race promotes fitness and encourages runners to get out and see the best parts of downtown, while growing closer to other locals with the same interests. It's the one I look forward to most of all!

  • Great course, great food, great beer, and a great cause!

  • It's the best 5k in town because though it's a smaller event, it raises an amazing amount of money for my favorite charity!

  • This is one of the best races in Memphis!  The thought of all the awesome food and beer at the afterparty makes me want to run faster. Plus it's just a fun race/atmosphere.

  • The Bar Dog 5K is the best 5K because it's a friendly reminder that the St Jude marathon is a few months away and that I should start training!

  • Best 5K because it has everything.  Downtown, check.  Music, check.  Food, check.  And a flat course so you can save energy for the Party!  Check!

  • Meghan Gibson

Sliders.  Block party.  Best views in Memphis.

  • This race is awesome because it raises money for St Jude and they throw the best post race party!

  • Because it takes two things Memphians are really passionate about (St. Jude and beer) and puts them together in a great way. Plus, every St. Jude Hero deserves a toast!

  • All the proceeds benefit St. Jude!!

  • There's so much hype around this event, and the 5k lives up to it. It's for a great cause, and I'd love to run in it!

  • the cause, the course, & the cool refreshments at the end!
