Here we go again! Hugh Jackman gets soaked for a good cause as he kicks off the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

It was perhaps the defining craze of 2014, prompting celebrities across the world to pour buckets of freezing cold water over their heads for a good cause.

But while Hugh Jackman's name was not amongst those who participated as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge swept across the globe, he attempted to atone for his absence on Sunday evening.

Taking to Instagram, the 46-year-old actor posted a video in which she is seen emptying a bucket of water and ice over his head while kneeling in a bathtub.

Sporting a crisp white shirt and bow tie, Hugh - who previously attended a Fight Cancer fundraising event with wife Deborra Lee Furness -  Hugh was endeavouring to kick start the viral campaign for 2015.

'I know I'm late, but this is the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - bring it on!' he announces, bucket in hand.

The campaign became a huge success last summer in its aim to promote awareness and research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - commonly referred to as  Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The ALS association announced on August 1 its reintroduction with the aim of developing the challenge as an annual event.

On Saturday evening Hugh and Deborra, who are patrons for the Fight Cancer Foundation,, joined a star-studded crowd at the Red Ball charity event held at Melbourne's Grand Hyatt.

The couple, who have been married for 19 years, were grinning from ear to ear as they walked the red carpet together.

The event raised a substantial amount of funds and according to The Daily Telegraph, $50,000 was splashed out on a dinner date with Hugh and Deborra-Lee, by a mystery bidder.

Hugh, who has been busy of late promoting his upcoming film Pan, and getting underway with his arena show Broadway To Oz, recently opened up to Sunday Style about his family, including the couple's adopted children Oscar, 15, and nine-year-old Ava.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph he said being a dad is: 'Unbelievable, tiring, magical… the most challenging role I've ever had.'

According to the Herald Sun, Saturday marked exactly 20 years to the day since Hugh asked Deborra-Lee to marry him in Melbourne.
