Crocheted Stripe Coin Purse

Since I have some left over yarn from the daisy I made for my tote bag, I made a coin purse to go with it. This is my first trial in making a frame-clutch coin purse with crocheted yarn. Not bad huh!

I am going to make more of this as I find it not as difficult as I thought, except the sewing part to attach the metal frame clutch onto the purse.

Recently I was struggling with this issue: “should I make some crafts for sale?”…. You know, economy is bad and my hobby has become a luxury expenditure in the household. I know I have to do something to get my hobby going without burdening the family. One thing I can think of is to sell some of my handmade creations and generate some income to fund my next project and so on…. But, it saddens me that I am commercializing my craftwork. What do you think, should I?

  1. YES! You do beautiful work — set yourself up an Etsy shop! LOVE the coin purse by the way – so Springy!

  2. I love the coin purse too- and honestly my first thought was oooh- I would buy that if it was for sale.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with selling your crafts- as long as crafting doesn’t become like work and stops being fun. It might feel good to know that your creations are going to somebody else who will love and appreciate your efforts. Plus you can always pick and choose what you’d like to sell, if something seems too special and you want to keep it one of a kind then that’s your choice.

  3. This is adorable! I love making this type of thing for my granddaughters. They really love little purses and handmade slippers. You really should set yourself up with a shop on etsy! You would do well, your work is beautiful!

  4. are you taking orders? if you are i would like to have a dazzle bag, 2 fishy pouchers, etc. i am serious …. drop me a mail.

  6. I love this purse.
I´ve been thinking of doing one myself. So far I have made purses only of fabric. And with metal frmaes that have to be glued and pressed.

I sell some of my crafts just to get rid of them and get some money for the materials.

I´ll come back to your blog later.

  7. were did you find the coin pure at to make your coin pures? great idea!

  8. just found your site —-it is fab! i was wondering if you have a written coin purse pattern

  9. Momma always told me: “If you don’t have what you need, use what you got.” In this case use your craft. I have often sold my crochet items to fund the Xmas purse for presents. Sometimes selling one item at the cost of materials for 2 so that I would sell one, give the other as a gift and my “gift” was basically free except for the time to make it. Sometimes my profit went to things like the “curtain fund” or my daughter’s “school trip fund”. Sometimes just because I wanted more yarn dang it or an OTT lite. Think of it as bartering. You get the idea.

  10. Where did you find the coin purse frame? I have been searching and have not been able to find it. I am an Activity Director at a senior community and teach craft class so I was wanting to teach the ladies to make the little coin purses?
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks…

  11. You should sell your work!!
I’m sure that a lot of people prefer to buy a handmaiden craft for a present or for them self rather than buy something made in a big factory.
Changing the world start with our mentality of comsumption and to help us change that mentality we need people like you that can make beautiful things from recycled materias.
Not all of us can make those beautiful things so why not sell them?

  12. I love your coin purse and would really like to make one for myself. You mentioned previously that the pattern could be found under the purse category. Please help, I can’t seem to find it! Thank you. :o)

  13. Do you have this pattern for sale? I would love to make a coin purse and I can’t find the pattern that I’m looking for anywhere!

  14. You really should, though am trying I. Maybe you don’t get richt, but a little bit money is better than none and as you said, this can turn out an expensive obsession. *lol*
I really love your crafts! You are so talented!

  15. I absolutely love this! I know you haven’t written out a pattern yet, but could you just give me a general heading of how to make one for myself? For example, did you use a round bottom or is the whole thing a rectangle sewn shut?

  16. Is there a way to get on your email list so I can receive automatic updates? I’m especially interested in the pattern for this striped coin purse when it’s ready.

    Thank you,
    Joy

  17. I would love to make this for my mom. Where can I get the pattern?

    • Sorry, Amanda, I didn’t develop the pattern for this purse as it was one of my very early project which wasn’t meant to share the pattern. Hopefully I will come back and work on the pattern.

  18. Well I think it’s great to try and sell your stuff. I learned crafts so I could sell.
I think people should not be asking you for your pattern if you are wanting to sell the item. If you were also offering to sell the pattern that is different.
Although I have been crafting long enough that I can look at the picture and make a pattern from it.

  19. sometimes if you turn your hobby into work, it takes the enjoyment out of it.
