It comes in the same week as Prince Charles is preparing to take on more of the Queen’s duties abroad as she prepares for her 90th birthday next year.

The Queen is said to have remarked during a discussion about her schedule: ‘I think I’ve done my bit, don’t you?’

And if this document by digital mapping and analytics specialist, Esri UK is anything to go by, she could have a point.

The yellow flight paths on the map represent each of the different countries the Queen has visited during her 63 years and seven months on the throne.

Her most active decade of globetrotting was during the Seventies when she embarked on 73 trips, within 48 different countries.

Her most popular destination was Canada, where she has visited 27 times, followed by Australia -where she has enjoyed 18 excursions.

That means the Queen has been to Canada more times than the total of all Victoria’s official foreign excursions combined.

However Her Majesty has never frequented Madagascar, Cuba or Peru as part of her official state or commonwealth visits.

Her transatlantic travels play a significant part in strengthening friendships and economic ties between the UK and other countries.

However Queen Elizabeth  has privately made it clear that her days of foreign travel are numbered, although she will attend the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in November.

Stuart Bonthrone, Managing Director of Esri UK, called her reign 'truly inspirational'.

He said: 'To really understand the significance of the work that she does we've charted every state and commonwealth visit she's ever made on one interactive map.

'When presented visually, it's truly impressive, highlighting the magnitude of her reign as Britain's best-travelled monarch. This is especially significant when the average person takes only one to two flights per year.'

The Queen will overtake great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria’s record at 5.30pm on Wednesday.

Her Majesty, who is currently on holiday at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, will be joined by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the milestone occasion.
