One of his most popular roles sees him portray lothario Captain Jack Sparrow.

But it appears that Johnny Depp might have taken a part of his character home with him, as he looked slightly bedraggled and puffy-faced during a gondola ride with wife Amber Heard in Venice on Sunday.

Working some of his pirate styled charm on his gorgeous wife, the actor was all smiles as they set sail - but his appearance did little for his typical heart-throb status.

Putting on a cosy display, the couple kept close as they sat back and enjoyed their excursion through the Italian city.

Draping his arm across his wife's shoulders, Johnny raised a grin for photographers as he hid his eyes behind a pair of aviator styled sunglasses - but this displayed his slightly greasy appearance, with his dishevelled locks on full display and a rather odd stain on his teeth.

Meanwhile, Amber, 29, chose to go for Hollywood glamour with a pair of tortoise shell rimmed shades as she wore her blond hair down in loose waves.

Proving to be a perfect match for Mr Sparrow, Heard donned a striped shirt as she accessorised with a gold hooped earring which featured an ivory charm.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Johnny displayed his love for the finer things in life while taking a puff from a cigar as he attended The Danish Girl red carpet alongside his glamorous spouse Amber.

Letting his hair down at the film premiere Johnny didn't mind having a quick inhale of his cigar, before being grabbed by Amber for a smooch, who was seemingly not put off by his smoky breath.

The couple appeared to up the ante since their appearance at the Black Mass film premiere on Friday, this time kissing for the cameras as they arrived at the film event.

The couple faced scrutiny over their relationship when People.com claimed they were 'leading separate lives' because they hadn't been photographed together in public since marrying in February.

The Danish Girl is a poignant biographical drama that tells the true story of Lili - born Einar Wegener - who became one of the first people to have gender reassignment surgery in the 1930s.

As the film trailer reveals, it underpins the beautiful love story between Einar and his wife Gerda, played by Alicia Vikander, who falls for the 'charming and mysterious' artist.

The film is already hyped for big things at the Venice Film Festival, which is judged by three juries; The Venezia 72 Competition jury, Jury of the Orizzonti and Luigi De Laurentiis.
