Prince Harry and his ex Chelsy Davy 'thinking of giving relationship another chance' after secret tryst in African jungle

  • Prince wooed the Zimbabwean socialite during his recent travels in Africa
  • The pair split shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding
  • But friends say they are ‘openly discussing’ giving relationship another go

When she and Prince Harry separated after a tempestuous seven-year romance, she vowed to friends ‘that ship has sailed’.

But Zimbabwean socialite Chelsy Davy is said to be considering giving the relationship another chance after the prince wooed her again during his recent travels in Africa.

The pair, who split shortly after attending the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011, have remained friends.

Since then Harry has enjoyed the company of a string of beautiful young women, most recently actress and model Cressida Bonas, with whom he broke up last year.

Miss Davy had a serious romance with society jeweller Charles Goode which ended in January.

Harry, who turns 31 a week today, has spoken often of his desire to settle down. And sources have confirmed that the prince, who is due to return to the UK this week after more than three months working on conservation projects abroad, met Chelsy and her family while in South Africa.

The Sun newspaper quoted friends who claim the pair are ‘openly discussing’ giving their relationship another go.

The source said: ‘Harry still holds a candle for her. They saw each other recently. There’s still very much something between them. He has never fallen out of love with Chelsy.’

Harry could see her again soon as he will return to Africa towards the end of the year to open a centre for HIV-affected children in Lesotho before undertaking a week-long tour of South Africa on behalf of the Government.

But the Mail has been told that the pair would have ‘a lot to work out’ before they could patch things up.

One friend said that it was the invitation to William and Kate’s wedding that convinced Miss Davy, 29, who recently quit her job as a solicitor, that her romance with the prince was doomed.

He still holds a candle for her

‘The royal wedding was a wake-up call for Chelsy. It highlighted how she didn’t fit in with Harry’s family or the life that is already mapped out for him,’ the friend said.

‘Chelsy is a very strong woman and a real free spirit. While lots of girls dream of being a princess, she has no interest in that kind of life at all. She said she could never, ever see herself as a member of the Royal Family. Chelsy finally decided to call it quits with Harry. She told him that she saw no future in the two of them being together.’

Apparently Miss Davy’s family, although fond of Harry, were not displeased that the relationship had run its course, as they felt it was ‘going nowhere’ and were worried that she would struggle with life in the spotlight.

The family friend added: ‘They have always been in touch and are incredibly fond of each other, although Chelsy swore she would never go back there.

‘But they have both matured a great deal since they last dated, so who knows? However I think Harry would have to make a lot of promises about how their life would be.’

Harry and Chelsy, daughter of a controversial businessman who ran several lucrative hunting concerns in their native Zimbabwe, met in Cape Town in 2004 during the prince’s gap-year travels.

In 2008 he introduced Miss Davy to the Queen – the litmus test for any royal relationship – at cousin Peter Phillips’s wedding. Harry has often bemoaned the difficulty he has found in finding someone to settle down with.

Earlier this year he remarked: ‘It will happen when it’s going to happen. Of course, I would love to have kids right now, but there’s a process that one has to go through.’
